I had a bit of spare time so i did some research on my master system and had a little look ahead at other clubs fixture lists. It's not exactly helping us out of our situation. Quite the opposite in fact.

This is the bottom end of the league as it currently stands.

Oldham 17
Crewe 17
Leyton Orient 16
Shrewsbury 14
---------------------- Drop Zone
Coventry 14
Scunthorpe 10
Bury 9
Hartlepool 8

These are the clubs around us's next 4 fixtures (including ours).

Hartlepool Tranmere (h) Yeovil (a) Coventry (h) Oldham (h)
Bury Oldham (h), Portsmouth (a) Colchester (a) Scunthorpe (a)
Scunthorpe Walsall (a) Coventry (a) Notts County (h) bury (h)
Coventry Crawley (h) Scunthorpe (h) Hartlepool (a) Colchester (a)
Shrewsbury Bournemouth (a) Leyton Orient (a) Crewe (h) Oldham (a)
Leyton Orient Mk Dons (a) Shrewsbury (h) Carlisle (a) Portsmouth (a)

The teams coloured red are where teams just above us are playing other teams just above us, so the point(s) have to go somewhere around the drop zone. So looking at it, i'd anticipate the 'safety' line being about 20 points or so (maybe higher) by the 20th November. Our home games to Coventry and Oldham are classic '6 pointers' if we are to have a chance of pulling ourselves out of the mire. Any less than 6 points from our next 12 available and we could be up to our necks in it.

Come on Pools!!

So we really need 12 points. Yeovil, Coventry and Oldham are must wins.

Portsmouth 18
Shrewsbury 17
--------------------------------------------------Drop zone------------------------------------
Oldham 17 (0ne game in hand)
Scunthorpe 17
Bury 15
Hartlepool 8

I’ve recalled this thread for two reasons. One, too show the troll from Darlo that he’s a dick (which we all knew anyway) but also to try to offer a little bit of optimism to us all, the players, the managers, us, everyone.

Since the opening post, 18 days have ticked by. In that time, Scunthorpe, Coventry and Crewe have, in my opinion, shown enough fight to probably have little or nothing to worry about over the full season.

We’re obviously in a worse mess than we were.....BUT... Oldham have picked up NO points either (and their game in hand is against Doncaster who are pretty good).

Portsmouth have picked up NO points, since the opening post and have lost 5 on the bounce without scoring a goal.

Bury may well have picked up 6 points, but those wins were against ..... Portsmouth and Oldham (who are both arguably as shit as we are).

Shrewsbury have only picked up 3 points and that was today at home to Crewe.

The other team in the mix is Oldham who we play next. Since the open post Oldham have lost 3 on the bounce in the league, one of which was a home defeat to Bury.

So I guess what i’m getting at, is our season is obviously all about finishing higher than 4 other shit teams. The evidence suggests that there are 4 other shit teams. Who are potentially close to being as shit as we are. Those 4 teams being Bury, Oldham, Shrewsbury and Portsmouth, and remember, pompy are potentially facing a big points deduction once the FA get their act together.

So let’s look where we MIGHT be in 3 games time.

Pompy, who have lost 5 on the bounce without scoring are playing:
Leyton Orient (h), Coventry (a) and Tranmere (a)

What would you say they’re looking at there? 3 points max i’d say.

Bury, are playing:
Scunthorpe (a), Bournmouth (h), Leyton Orient (h).

Keeping in mind Laws has got Scunthorpe going a bit, Bournmouth have won 7 and drawn 1 of their last 8, and Bury have TWO cup games in the 7 days leading up the their game against Leyton Orient (making the league game their third in a week), i’ll honestly be surprised if they get more than 1 point of the 9.

Shrewsbury are playing: MK Dons (a), Oldham (a) and Crawley (a).

Most people would take them to get nowt on the road at MK Dons or Crawley, and Oldham are obviously as desperate for the points as they are. Potentially 0 points.

So that takes us to Oldham, who play us (a), shrewsbury (h), Doncaster (a) (their game in hand), Doncaster again in the cup, then Colchester (a) and Colchester have a pretty solid home record. It’s hard to say what they’ll get from that, it'll either be 3 or 6 depending on if we beat them i'd say.

How they do in their next game, against us is SSSOOOOO big in the chain of events all this will trigger.

Hartlepool United: We play Oldham (h), Walsall (a) and Stevenage (h).

Stevenage are one of the best sides in the league away from home and they’ll have too much for us. Walsall are actually pretty shit at home and have lost 5 of their 9 at home, winning just 2. We could take a point? So it all comes back to Oldham. Without doubt the biggest game of our season given the current situation.

In three league games time, with the wind blowing, bu Dec 8th the league table COULD look like this:

Portsmouth 21
--------------------------------------Drop zone------------------------------------------------------------
Shrewsbury 20
Oldham 17* (works on the assumption we beat them, then shrews do too).
Bury 18
Hartlepool 12

I know there will be people thinking ‘well that was a long winded way of pointing out that the gap is 9 points now and it’ll possibly be 9 in three games time’, but I think it’s worth knowing and looking ahead. It potentially gives Hughes 3 games to get to grips with things knowing that the ‘safety zone’ isn't unlikely to get much higher than it is now.

If we can be ‘just’ 8 or 9 points off safety in 3 games time with 24 games still to go (72 points), there’s a sniff of a chance. 4 points from the next 9 available FFS. Howay Pools. Is that too much to ask?

Don’t just lie down and accept relegation. You’re playing for your jobs.

Having said all of that..... lose to Oldham on tuesday and we may as well start playing the kids straight away.

VOR you must get the point being raised. Your posts are a tad long and what you said was basically we are shit and in a few games time we'll still be shit. Come on man keep it snappy you're as plodding and as creative as our midfield

FFS, ok.... if we have any chance of staying up we need to (a) beat oldham and then finish above these...
Bury, Oldham, Shrewsbury and Portsmouth. No other side is worse than us and them 4. Short enough?

I'm not even an average plumber I am shit. I'm as good a plumber as you are a "writer". I'm not rude I am just letting you know how I feel about your posts. All writers need to accept reviews and that not all reviews say you are great.

You say it as if we fucking don't know.

I believe it is custom to say "No shit Sherlock" to comments as bloody obvious as that.

Where i live, saying 'boring f**ker' is rude. A review yeah fine, yeah, no worries, 'boring f**ker' = rude. 'Obnoxious tit' is also rude, but i didn't use a moderator to remove it. The long post above wasn't even 'writing' anyway, just stats and stuff. But fair enough. Lets move on.

Look, you didn't READ to longer post, asked for a very short summary, but IF you read it, just see why i broke it down team by team and game by game... it identifies (possibly) a glimmer of light between the next three games. I agree my comment on the plumbing thing was OTT (and wrong)... as was not reading something and dismissing it as boring without actually reading it.

As i said, you're probably right. We're about 1/33 to go down with most bookies. I'd say though, the next 3 are the most significant of the season. Take 4 points, we'll have a sniff (based on the fixtures of the other clubs around us, which was what my long post was about)... just a sniff...a glimmer of hope.

ok then apology accepted for your libellous claim about my plumbing skills. Although it probably isn't libel as I am not a plumber and have never been a plumber and so I guess your defence would be that it is true and I am a crap plumber.

I don't think I have grasped the principle of libel.....I wonder could you explain please

In my opinion the next 3 games are largely irrelevant, as are the next 30. Not only is this team going down, they will almost certainly finish bottom, and I'm actually even starting to think the person who said they are the worst Pools team ever might have the basis of an argument.

Good to meet you today Chip, and infact I am a manager of a retail business. Was it the elbow patches and the cords that made you think I was a teacher?

I don't want to bore you. So lets move on.

1989/90 i'd say (the year of the baker overhead v stockport), in the early part of that season we took hidings every other week.

6-0
6-0
6-1
7-1 by November 11th that year. (plus three other games where we shipped 4 before that date).

That year almost made this start look good.

Well long winded or not fat man, i think the poolie world will look a brighter place in 3 games time.
