I know there's a few people on here who would probably be able to help me out with this. Was just wondering where is a decent place around this area to shop for cheap/reasonably priced vinyl records? Any help would be much appreciated.

2 choices really. Betterdaze in Northallerton, or Sound It Out in Stockton.

Over the last couple of years I've sold a lot of vinyl on Ebay, to do it properly it's very time consuming, checking catalogue numbers, matrix numbers and etchings on the Discogs website, playing everything to check for crackles and jumps, which can render an album virtually worthless and then taking at least six photographs of vinyl, labels and sleeve and then giving as many details of condition etc as you can. It can be well worth the effort if you know exactly what you're selling though, made between £10 and £30 for quite a lot of albums and a lot more than that for a few singles and albums.

Does take time to grade and sell stuff properly. My advice to Mr Nottingham would be to give me first look so I can cream off anything good and then sell the rest as a job lot to Mr Elvis.

Seriously though, if it won't get you a tenner it isn't worth listing on its own.

It is true e-bay has driven the price of good records down.

It is useful though for filling in gaps in the collection.

I already told our lass to let the bairn keep them. They might be of some use to him financially if ever he decides he doesn't need them in the future, long after I'm gone.

He could spend a couple of hours reading the newspaper on Thick as a Brick!!!

You'll have to program them to shuffle up to the Great Juke Box in the sky.

PS What do you mean, if you die? Is there a get-out clause I haven't heard about?

there probably is, although I'm guessing there's only a very select few who are eligible..... the terms of eligibility themselves are more than likely determined by the people who are eligible

Definition of a closed shop

I've made a change to my will regarding mine! The family will still get the money, but I've named a specific friend to take charge of the sale. Last thing I want is some dealer rifling through forty years worth of work. The same friend has done the same thing with HIS will, naming me to take charge of the vinyl.

Luckily we don't travel together very often....

My son jokes that he will be inheriting a record shop.

He will probably take some for himself and sell the rest on.

I read it only a few weeks back! Get quite a few copies through my hands and I've got a really, really MINT copy on my shelves with a St Cleves Chronicle that can only be described as unread! I have a USA Copy too and I always think WTF did the Yanks make of this?!!

In fact, that copy came out of a huge crate of American-pressed/owned albums I got at the back end of the summer, and the whole lot made me chuckle a few times. Things like Ian Dury and Dr Feelgood, 999 and Sham 69...how the hell did they sell ANY LP's in the States?!

Sham 69 even had a b side about not being allowed into the States. Must have given them some added glamour.

I dunno about the States but las Friday a French punk I know who must have been like 2 months old in 1977 practically told me Jimmy Pursey's life story.
He was a bit embarrassed on another point when I explained to him that it was "Suzie" and the Banshees after finally twigging what he meant by See-oox-ie. Not his fault their radios pronounce it like that I guess.
