Whose are the best internal hard drives these days? I always used Maxtor or IBM but they have gone the way of the Dodo.
Seagate and WD always seemed a bit dodgy to me but nowadays they seem to be all you can get.

Seagate and WD have bought out all the others. I've not touched a seagate drive for about 5 years, as we had loads of problems with them at work. Got a hitachi deskstar a couple of years ago for my home pc, no problems with it so far. Had 2 mirrored samsungs fail in my pc at work in the last couple of weeks, but they were 4 years old...

solid state is the way forward, if expensive.

Western Digital and Seagate are by far superior to anything else around on the market these days.

SSD's (or Solid State Drives) as Mr I mentioned, are going to be a revolution when the general public catches up - but, as with all tech, they are supremely priced as well.

SSDs still have at least another generation to go before they are a serious proposition, and quite a bit further to go to match the good old HDD (IMHO).

The question still remains, WD or Seagate? Maybe they've improved since I last had one; at the time they were both bobbins, although WD possibly just had the edge.

SSD's are selling like hot cakes here at the moment. Fresh out of Taiwan.

I'd probably go WD over Seagate. You can get a 120GB SSD for about £50 now, I'm thinking of getting one for the boot drive and using my HDD as a second drive for data.
