I can't see it happening.

No matter how frustrated Cooper is, I reckon Mr. Hodcroft has told him that this is the squad he has to pick from this year.

Best deadline day ever has to be the one in 1997. Two new full backs, a skilful attacking goalscoring midfielder, a top class tackling midfielder (on loan) and a returning goalscoring hero, all on the same day. Those were the days!

That got be thinking MJ.....was there just the one transfer deadline day then (last Thursday in March) If not these are going to be totally wrong

Two new full backs.. Darren Knowles and Richard Lucas
a skilful attacking goalscoring midfielder Mark Proctor
a top class tackling midfielder (on loan) Micheal Brown
returning goalscoring hero Paul Baker

The skillful attacking goalscoring midfielder was surely Jon Cullen ...?

In fact I think those days were far better when the deadline didn't shut until about the end of March?

The transfer window bollocks is a load of shite, players being loaned around all over is also a load of shite. Also why have a deadline at all? Surely players should be allowed to change their workplaces when they want..?

Contract is to give a player stability and protect other clubs from taking your valuable assets at cut down prices.

If Steve Howard gets injured mid September Pools should be able to bid for and sign players from whoever if they want. Just say they NC likes the look of a star striker at Gateshead or York. It is unlikely that they are going to agree to loan but if the price is right they would probably be prepared to sell. It's stupid that you would have t wait till January or go through the stupid emergency loan system....

Wasn't Cullen with us before 1997 ??..... He played alongside Mark Cooper didn't he and Cooper only spent one season with us and that was before 97.

Cooper's only season was 1996/97, and he only played alongside Cullen twice.

Cullen signed, along with Knowles, Lucas, Baker and Brown, on 27th March 1997. All five made their debut (or second debut in Baker's case) two days later against Colchester. Proctor made his second appearance in that match, having signed a week earlier than the others.

Well that shows memory going, I would have put money on Cullen playing for us before 96/97, but I have no intention of arguing with you MJ.

Cullen was with us for less than a year but he was in the same side as Jan Ove who obviously arrived in 1997 when IOR did. We sold Cullen in January 1998 and declined the chance to take him back later that same year.

Loan or transfer him back? Sheffield United paid about £250,000 didn't they?

They wanted to give him back in a straight swap for Chris Beech. We turned it down because we wanted cash for Beech and Cullen hadn't played much recent football. That was shortly before a game at Plymouth in November 1998. Beech was unhappy that we'd turned it down, refused to play at Plymouth, and indeed never played for us again before being transferred to Huddersfield in the new year.

I was mascot that game against Plymouth in 1998 and chose Chris Beech as my favourite player and the bastad left on Thursday rage so my dad picked Graeme Lee for me
