My young un has brought home massive volumes of Northern Daily mail form all sorts of random years 1910, 1936, 1937, 1964 and then a couple of others whose name I can't remember but are predeccessors of the NDM but include Richmond and cleveland from 1897. Amazing fascinating and were going to be thrown out! These are going into storage (not in my gaff I may add) as my missus will throw a feckin fit when she gets a whiff of the dusty treasures never mind sees them ha ha

Brilliant stuff that would take years to read!!

Lucky you, I love stuff like that- reading about what was going on around here in the olden days and old photos and stuff.

Do they have footie results and attendances in too?

I've seen some old newspapers with results, attendances and the like in (possibly The Mail from years back, not sure) and I reckon they're great fun. Seeing teams in what now seem like mad divisions and the high and low crowds and scores that some of them get that just don't equate to today!

Not wanting to hijack the thread but out of curiosity, has anyone got a copy of the Mail from when we beat Man U?

It was shortly before I started going to pools and I'd be interested to see it.

Trouble at a match between stockton and Billingham

'Did you call him a dirty swine?'
'I did sir'
and did you apologise afterwards?
yes sir... ha ha ha

Not quite the headbutting of the ref (although he was accused of striking a fellow in the mouth !)

I was sat behind Barron in this very match and he was slagging off every single player who tried to pass to a team mate and was heard shouting to "just fucking boot it as far as you can"

Would love to get hold of stuff like that!! Love using the microfilm at the library and always wondered if you can buy a projecter and get copies of the microfilm from the library. I'd spend half my life scanning through the old mails!!
Have about 200 footy mails which I've kept from mid 80s to mid 90s which I like to look through occasionally!!

When you consider that the ball in those days often weighed about three clem after about twenty minutes on a rainy day, the instruction to boot it as far as you can was very relevant !!!!!!!!!!!!!
