The idea is that we measure our progress to promotion through two indicators.

The first, the MPN or magic promotion number, says how many points we theoretically need to make promotion a certainty (or how many points the chasers need to drop).
Two weeks ago the MPN stood at 28, last week at 25, and now this week it stands at 21, continuing its inexorable descent to zero when promotion will be a nailed on certainty.

The second, the promotulator, tells us how many clubs can no longer overtake us even if they win and we lose all our games. When it reaches 21, we're up!
Last week it stood 6 and it still stands at 6. This is no cause for concern as it simply reflects the hefty gap that is growing between Rochdale and Bury in 7th and 6th bottom place respectively. The two relegated clubs now look certain to come from those bottom 6.

So things are still heading smoothly to the promised land :))
