Unless he's got another job why the fuck would Boydy want to play in the Northern League?

It makes an absolute mockery of those who've been saying the only reason he's not been banging goals in for Pools is because Turner/Wadsworth/Cooper weren't picking him. Surely he could be playing at League 2 or at least BSP level he's only just turned 30 does he really want to be turning out in front of 50 people?

Bizarre and a bit sad.

BIG SIGNINGS ANNOUNCED TONIGHT
We are delighted to announce the signings of defender Paul Arnison and striker Adam Boyd. Full back Arnison spent last season with Darlington, after earlier professional experiwence with Hartlepool & Carlisle United. Boyd, still just 30, scored six goals in 32 games in League 1 last season for Hartlepool.

One of the most talented players ever pull on the blue and white playing in the Northern League at the age of 30.

I don't get it at all.

He's either been offered very good money, doesn't need to play professionally for financial reasons or doesn't feel up to league football.

Whatever it is, despite me being a vocal critic of his, it does seem odd that a player with his ability has found himself at such a low level at the age of 30.

Looks like career over. Natural born goalscorer and tremendous touch. His fitness has completely fukd him up. Very sad to see him at that level playing the likes of darlo

As I mentioned last week when we were discussing Boydy, he was offered a deal by Gateshead, but Celtic Nation have offered him more money, apparently £500 a week, he is on a week to week contract so if he gets offered a better deal higher up the leagues he can leave with a weeks notice.

Still £2,000 a month for doing something you love and he will rattle goals in at that standard.

I still don't find it any less bizarre, signing for a Northern League club for what is hardly megabucks. With the amount of goals he's scored at Football League level someone is bound to take a punt on him. Even if he had to go out and trial and prove himself. Ok Gateshead offered him a deal that wasn't great, their are more clubs out there than Gateshead.

If he had a burning desire to really do the best that he can and prove people he has still got something to offer he would not be signing for a Northern League club at this stage of his career. It's only the the first week of July, maybe if it was the first week in August and he still didn't have a club I'd sort of understand it.

I personally think he'll be a total flop at that level and will be out of the team well before Christmas.

Good chance he will struggle at that level. If he had pace he would bag bucket loads but he will be dependent on good service and if he dosnt get it that could be game over for him. He likes a gamble though and this is a big 1 indeed because if he fucks this up, were next??

Hope it all works out for him though and would like to see him move back up the leagues

Its not a foregone conclusion he will succeed. He won't be beating 3 players and scoring wonder goals, he will need decent service. If he gets it then he will score goals for sure. I wouldn't take it for granted he will rip the league apart, plus i would doubt the training schedule would be too hard. He will have To put alot of work in off his own back and this also could hinder him. Time will tell though and I'm sure everybody hopes he does extremely well

Sounds to me like this gadgie is bankrolling the club with an ambition. Remember Gretna?? They were Northern League and ended up in the SPL so it can be done.

They only failed when he got cancer, his family got greedy and pulled the plug. If it is the same sort of plan why wouldn't Boydy want to be a part of it?? He might just wave on his way past for all we know. Anyway, his reasons are his own business. Good luck to him. I was lucky to see him at his peak. clappp

He'll be the best footballer in that League pace has never had much to do with his game. He tricks and touches will be way above most he comes up against.

It's four or five leagues lower than he should be playing at.

Nope Sussex clearly knows that Boyd's only career goal is to score a hat-trick against the loids.

How is it a big league now a skint club without a home have joined it? I know the pikey gags at Darlo have always had substance but I never thought the football club would be ran from a caravan too.

Well we do have an active and vibrant football club in League 1. sctatchinghead

Incidentally. Manchester City don't own their ground and I suspect they do rather better than both of us......

We take more in the club shop than you do through the turnstiles, have done for ages.

I'm all ears for anything you have to say on financing a football club like....

That's not fair Mr Spender, we have turnstiles and a clubshop. They have someone elses turnstiles and a market stall.

I heard Boyd was due to sign for Darlo but when they asked for £50 a week subs and told him to buy a season ticket so he can get in on the days that he hasn't been asked to start he told them to fuck off.

You wouldn't want him then?? Really what are you trying to prove here?? However may first team games he had for Boro, he's signed for us after a very good loan spell in League 1. He's well thought of at this level which instantly puts him out of your league.

The latest I have heard, is that the owner is a multi-millionaire & is happy to bank roll the club. Boyd was paid a £6k signing on fee, he gets a £3k bonus if he scores 20 goals by the halfway point of the season & another £3k if he can score 30 in the full season. He gets a £6k bonus if they get promoted & also a £5k bonus if he doesnt walk away & stays all season, so add all that to his £500 per week & its not too bad a deal really. He is still training with Pools as well apparently.

They'll need to be - their new club name is cack.

Farsley Celtic was quality mind, but they had more sense than to play in green and white hoops.

You could be right - according to their wikipedia entry they went bust in 2010 and in their last season they were playing in all blue at home and all white away. Like any team I'm sure there were changes down the years.

Thing is, Farsley Celtic were a proper club with a 100 year history. Celtic Nation sounds like a Little League baseball team. I'm assuming their chairman is suffering from delusions of grandeur - if he wanted something a bit different Carlisle Sheep Shaggers FC would have done just fine.

They had a proper ground anyway although most of it was wood and it was very dilapidated.

The club bar was under the stand and so you had to duck to sit at a table and they had a one bar electric fire perched on the wooden rafters for heating. Top H&S like.....
