see he wants to try and get rid of penalty shoot outs

Wonder if he would have felt the same way if Bayern Munich had beat Chelski

Next goal wins.....oh yeah, they already tried that and called it silver/golden goal. How about the good old Brierton field ruling (Mosher/Pete Farman/Stelling et al) when one of our mams would call us in for supper/10 pm and we would play to a result the next evening.

Blatter is quored as saying "Football should not go to one to one. When it goes to penalty kicks football loses its essence."

Surely the essence of football is scoring goals? sctatchinghead Thefore if the game is drawn after 120mins the most fair way is to try and score a goal from 12 yards.

The fact that he's asked someone who's team has just lost on penalty shows bad jugement.

If he wants to change something how about goal line technology so when teams actually do score it counts! Or scrap away goals in european matches. You are suppose to win by scoring more than the opposition not because you scored one away from home. That's more unfair than penalties.

Or before kick off of extra time the manager nominates a player to be taken off  (from his own side) every 5 minutes.. By start of second half both teams would have no forwards and 1 less midfielder This carries on till it 6 a side. Or a red card is shown automatically a player commits any foul(doesn't go towards ban next games though) There not a lot of other alternatives really. I'm being pedantic as well

I bit heavy like. I still think that the Brierton field idea could work. Or in european games, the team that were with the allies in WW 2 go through and the axis teams get beaten. So Malta 1-1 Italy...Malta go through.

I always did think penalty shoot outs were a bit lame. The sudden death aspect is fine; just the execution is all wrong.

Instead of penners, give the teams alternate indirect free kicks on the edge of the box and allow 30 seconds' (20? 15?) play for something to happen. A goal stops the turn, no matter which side scores (if a team manages the wondrous feat of conceding a goal when it's their turn, more fool them).
The first team to score without reponse wins, like a tennis tie break, what.

The best alternative I've heard yet is similar to Monty's - the ball is on the centre spot, the keeper is on his goal-line, and one attacker has 15 or 20 seconds to score.

This means he the attacker is effectively in a 1 to 1 with the keeper, which involves loads more skill on the part of both players than taking a penalty. The attacker would need to chip/take the ball round the keeper etc, rather than just blamming it and hoping it goes in.

5 each of them to each side should sort it.

No alternative to pens, it's not broke, don't fix it, it's the only fair way to end a draw.

Blatter is only talking up cos an English team won a final on pens, he never said a bucking word when Italy won the 06 world cup on pens, or Portugal beating us on pens and so on.

Instead of changing the pens change bloody Blatter!

I do agree about Blatter though. Someone should take the daft, old, bent bastad ((c)ADG) outside and shoot him.

In the olden days they used to decide drawn internationals with a winner takes all toss in the centre circle. Splendid, two chaps going at it while a referee with a beautifully waxed moustache looked on. Surely Mr Blatter can see the appeal and the potential for film rights, time for a toss Sepp?

If Sepp Blatter could get a very expensive prostitute to do the tossing, he'd go for it.
