Congratulations to the lass, an outstanding achievement. On the way to the final she had to beat 2 or 3 of the best in the world, including some American "wonderkid" and the world number 2. Looking forwards to seeing her at the Olympics. :flags-wavegreatbritain: :greetings-clapyellow: :greetings-clapyellow:

Hopefully when she gets home she'll know she's hit the big time when she finds out she's made it on to The Bunker

Why should women want to knock foook out of each other in a small square ring.
I just don’t think women are supposed to fight. A woman with a broken nose or a black eye is just not a good look.
Tessa Jowell has made some stupid decisions in her time but allowing women to box is just crazy!

It's a sport and she's representing Britain in an olympics held In England. I'd say every member of this board would love to compete for an olympic gold. Black eyes don't look good on anyone. I thought the chovanistic days were gone.

I bet he wouldn't say it to her face!!!

Well done savannah and good luck for the gold

If you see a woman with a black eye the first thing people think is domestic violence, you see a bloke and you think he's had a scrap down the town, he's been knocked about on a rugby pitch or he's done it sparring down the local gym, all the latter are accepted by the general population and not frowned upon at all.
Man or most men are born with the fighting instinct to challenge another man, it's the way most of us are made.
There's also the relatively minor aspect of entertainment and skill, like womens footy it's never going to appeal to the masses and therefore is an absolute waste of time and money promoting such a thing.

So you say the general population think it's acceptable to go scrapping down the town and it's not frowned upon. But you also think it's unacceptable for women skilled in their chosen sport to compete against each other in a fully controlled environment. :violence-smack:

Two of the best/worst (depending on your point of view) fights I saw down the town were back in the mid 80's. Both were gang fights involving women in the Devon and Foxy's. Absolute pure violence with no mercy! Frightening.

I mean Hartlepool World Champions are common as muck these days aren't they, so hey let's refocus this topic on the evils of women's boxing.

But before that, anyone mind if I just say GET THE FOOK IN SAVANNAH  clappp

Well done Savannah!!

How anyone can find a negative aspect to a young lady succeeding at what she wants to do is beyond me.

Mr Tree must just be fishing surely?

If you can get enjoyment out of 2 women knocking each others brains about and all in the interests of brownie points for the town then good for you.
Not my cup of tea like!

Nobody is insisting you have to watch every fight she takes part in. Would it be difficult to congratulate her on winning a WORLD title?

Its as stupid as 22 blokes kicking fuck out of a bag of wind for 90 minutes. All sport is bloody pointless but when someone chooses to follow a professsion and reaches the top of it they deserve recognition.

I would assume that Savannah does this for the good of herself, as she wants to be a top class sportswoman. The fact the town also gets some small publicity from this is great, but it will be Savannah who wins the medal, not the town!

Fantastic to see a young working class lass from the Headland featuring for Team GB at the Olympics.
Put's paid IMHO to all those that whine about the 2012 games.

Well done Savannah!!

Our Athletics Club in Sedgefield has just had it's 70th kid compete at Track & Field events this season & achieved it's 64th top 3 placing. As one of the coaches at the club I know the Olympics is having a major effect on participation & effort.
We've got kids coming in from as far afield as Pools, Darlo, Billingham as well as the Sth Durham Villages.

Knock it all you like but for young adults like Savannah & for all those kids getting involved in Sport whether it's athletics, boxing or whatever the 2012 games is inspirational.

How about some of the Bunkerites helping Chip out with his work with the youngsters & setting up a junior athletics club in Pools. I'm sure the good folk of Burn Rd Harriers will help you out.
It would also be a really postive contribution to the town.

Working with kids, getting fitter etc by doing so also seems to be attractive to women!

Boxing/athletics etc all need coaches to help kids like Savannah be the best they can.

So how about it Bunkerites?

If that is what you think most people think then perhaps that is because there is so much of it about - in which case that is more to the shame and detriment of MEN than to women.

Well done Savannah
Well done the Headland Boxing Club
Well done the lass from Leeds for her silver medal
Well done to all three British lasses for qualifying for the Olympics.

Not in my case, my missus has legs like Hulk Hogan!! She's the boss here!
I just don't see the attraction of two girls knocking each others brains about for half an hour.
If the bairn came in from school and asked to go boxing I'd tell her to give her head a shake and come back with something a lot less harmful.
Fair play to the lass for wanting to succeed in something but in my eyes it's still wrong.

Our rass cracked me once when we were arsing about, I'm 79kg and she's 49kg, I'm 186cm and she's 145 or so, and I went down like a sack of shite. Her fist is about 4" square but she caught me a beauty.

Why not I say??

I can sort of see where Lightning Tree is coming from like.

I went to watch kickboxing last year and before the mens events there was a few womens fights. It was just a bit uncomfortable watching it. You couldnt get the same level of enjoyment from seeing a woman kicking anothers head in.
