That is the minimum jail sentence for the crime of a single rape (not a serial rapist). If victim over 18. 8 yrs if over13 and under 18, 10 years if under 13. All 3 minimum sentences seem to light to me. It does carry a life sentence.

His sentence of 5 years is also shorter than the average jail term for rape which is 7 1/2 years

My mate who is a Brighton supporter reckons 5 of their players in court soon for the same thing.

A player who gets jailed whilst still a professional footballer should be banned for life by the FA. Stops scumbags like Hughes coming back, as no doubt when Evans gets released, probably in 2/3 years, he will get snapped up by oldham, notts county or whoever and start earning a decent wage again.

It genuinely makes me sick that footballers don't seem to understand that rules must apply to them. The system MUST be changed. The fact that he was even able to PLAY for Sheffield United against us whilst under such an investigation was ridiculous.

If I, or anyone else, was under investigation for such a heinous crime, I would be suspended until that came to court.

I would bet anything that under IOR rules , mainly,

do nothing that embarrasses the club (or words to that effect) that would be the minimum that would happen. The player suspended until the court case has been completed.

If Sheff United have any scruples no he must surely be in breach of his contract, not training/available for selection etc, so they should just tear it up. he got 5 years(even if he serves 2 1/2) then surely his contract would be up before release unless they give him a really long contract.

Let's not forget the girl and what she was put through.

Some people may have a degree of sympathy for him because there is such a fine line between rape and not rape in a case like this, ( though what the jury have discovered may be a damn site different to what we have read on the net) but maybe at the end of the day he was showing what someones missus might call a patriarchal sense of entitlement and what the rest of us would call thinking with his genitals.
That can only lead to trouble when your prospective sexual partner is pissed out of her head!

It most certainly will be, as it will be based on a good few days evidence as opposed to bits and pieces put in a newspaper/on the net. His 12 true and just men have found him guilty and that is sure good enough for me. If he still claims innocence he has his right of appeal.

The girl was young, she was drunk( claims drinks may have been spiked) he must have known she was drunk at the very least, that should have made him think.

And as someone else said let's not forget what the girl has been through, to someone of such young age, it must be one of worse crimes to have to carry through the rest of your life.

Same here, and if I was found not guilty I would still need to find a new career.

Ched Evans should never be allowed to be a professional footballer in this country again and the PFA should refuse registration for any player that has served a custodial sentence, and consider fixed term suspensions for players that are convicted of crimes that could have carried a custodial sentence.
