"Bob Paisley was England's best ever manager and won the European Cup three times while manager of Liverpool yet only ever received an OBE. He also won the domestic League title 6 of the 9 years he was in charge. Alex Ferguson has only won the European Cup once, yet received a knighthood. This is not equitable"!!!!

As a kid in the Black Country i grew up to admire and respect Bob Paisley when he managed Liverpool. Because of his quiet, unsassuming manner, his meticulous planning against opposition teams. Plus of course his sharp witted Country Durham humour.

In my estimation the only reason why Paisley only got an OBE instead of a knighthood was that the game of football was considered uncool to the establishment and powers that be in his era of great success.

He was born not too far away from Hartlepool wasn't he?

Just checked his birthplace and it was Hetton Le Hole , I never knew that until now, no more than a 20 minute drive from here

..and we even have a little monument of him.

I used to love Bob Paisleys interviews on the telly. He was streets ahead of any politician ever at avoiding the question and yet you never noticed until about five minutes later.

'Bob, did Graham Souness deserve a sending off for those three waist high tackles on Brian Robson??'
