Should they be a city?

Currently around 8-1 to be made one of two new cities for the Diamond Jubilee.

For me, Reading is bound to be one of the favourites.

I heard Horden is nailed on for one of the places.

I'll tell you one thing, if Diddlesbrough do get made a "city", and I come home one day to find out about it, I bloody well hope that our lass has an ambulance on standby otherwise I'm not sure I'll survive the shock.

I thought the same about Reading, bound to be a favourite is Reading, i mean come on, it's Reading!!!

I tell you one things for sure, i dare not even leave the house at the moment, for fear of returning home to ground breaking news like this...

Genuine question- what does anybody get out of a town becoming a city? Not including anyone from the council getting a pay rise to reflect their new importance.

I can see it really taking off ..Day trips to Redcar ,Hartlepool ? What a holiday..

Explain why a 'tourist' would go to Middlesbrough ....I suppose you could go and look at the Transporter Bridge and wonder why it still exists ... then you could go and ..... ......... er, that's it.

That's why I cant see them getting city status.

What would a tourist do in Reading though? Makes the Transporter Bridge, some prostitutes and a toad in Monkeybutt's hole sound very appealing.

That would certainly attract a lot of tourists, seeing monkeybutt with a toad in his hole, I might even attend the grand opening of that.

The thought of Monkeybutt wearing nothing but a Liberace apron and barbed wire thong offering open top bus tours while a toad/turd emerges blinking into the daylight from his torpedo tube could be a top earner on the alternative holiday circuit.

Hmm got me thinking now, perhaps the passing trade would increase with the apron, although the barbed thong could be restrictive, let me work on that

To be fair you can't argue with St Asaph sneaking it. According to their list of events they have Beaver Scouts and Ninja classes as well as some walks and a big church.
