On the bit of highlights I've just watched Scotty had a good game making a few excellent saves. How he made the one against Rhodes early on I don't know. Kept us in it by what I saw.

He is an excellent keeper.

A point somewhat lost on a few of our expert fans.

Its completely irrelevant if he makes top class saves and keeps us in matches when his kicking is poor. Everybody knows a goalkeepers most important ability is his kicking.

I just don't understand how his kicking has gotten so poor this season.

There's nowt wrong with his kicking the midfield players just stand in the wrong places when he kicks the ball out.

He's a good shot stopper like, if the strikers have to play against him in training no wonder we don't score many bbolt

He's a very solid goalkeeper at this level.

I said after the game Tuesday, he was my MOM. Made game changing saves early doors, if they got 1 or 2 early on They would of ripped us apart. Kept us in it and was always ready when called upon.

He's an excellent keeper but to fair on Saturday that would have meant a couple of our players standing in Asda car park.

Well if they want to win the ball they need to put the graft in maybe when Boyd is down Church Street he is really waiting for a pass.

He's certainly better than having to pick between Budtz and Arran Lee-Barrett.

Beggars belief how the latter has forged a career in the Championship, even as backup.

he's a good goalkeeper and as for his kicking, i'm not that concerned. He's there to stop the ball not be Franz Beckanbeaur.

His performances have improved a couple of notches since Cooper came back which was a very similar time to when Andy Collett joined the coaching staff wasn't it...? He has looked very assured and confident.

His kicking needs a bit of work like as does his finishing if he is to beat last seasons goal tally....

Thats a very good point & from what I remember of Collett when he played for Darlo, he was a very good shop stopper, but his kicking was rubbish. Personally I would prefer a keeper who stops the opposition from scoring rather than one who can kick well.

Scott is a very good keeper at this level, in my top 3 of our best ever keepers in the 35 years I have been going to Pools !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If he was brilliant at kicking he wouldn't be in goal

Isn't the goalkeeper kicking a bit like the female serve in tennis?? It's just a way of getting the ball into play.

Someone tell me the name of a good kicking goalkeeper. As long as it stays on the pitch, surely it's OK?? sctatchinghead

Surely the only reason his kicks go out a lot is cos generally the only player he aims for is Monkhouse and he is on the wing so theres little room for error? If we had a big striker in the middle capable of winning headers then Flinders would be kicking down the middle of the pitch and this issue wouldnt arise?

It's not particularly that, one of his kicks in the first half went about 30 yards and put us under immediate pressure, he then put a kick straight out of play in injury time that gave them possession at a time where they could have won the game. He was pracitising them before the match and it was clear his confidence has taken a knock following the Wycome incident.

I can never understand why goalkeepers can't kick. They're grown men who have been kicking a ball for twenty years, surely it's not that hard to put your foot through it so it goes in a straight line?

Is it unreasonable to suggest that Victoria Park is one of those places that magically saps confidence out of players for a reason pretty obvious to most?

Looking at Flinders when he plays he seems quite intense about his game, he only has to get one kick wrong and it seems to effect him. Last Saturday in the second half he dragged one out towards the Cyril Knowles and you could see him practicing the actual technique of kicking the ball out over and over again. Instead of just forgetting about it he lets it effect his next kick, instead of it being something natural he does without thinking it get's almost mechanical. By the time he dragged that one out of play in injury time he was livid with himself. Like most things in sport it's psychological, he be better served just laughing off a shite kick than getting wound up by it.
