punk fans can't be seen to "like" HEAVY METAL cos it goes against what punk was supposed to be about... even today... they pretend they don't like it... well I'm going to go loud and proud and blister their earholes in the next few minutes... soft punk not nice people!!!

Heavy metal means nothing in my humble opinion. Punk had a social conscience, was real. Heavy metal was noise for middle class kids who wanted to rebel without actually thinking of anything. And punk is better musically, far better.

You listen to the music you like, it's called personal choice, people are free to like what they like and fook all to do with class or anything else come to that.
Punk was no more real than any other music. As for having a social consience ....oh dear.

I'm an odd-bod then. 4 gigs running in 1981 I saw UFO, The Clash, Motorhead and The Damned. Always liked a bit of HM (esp.Motorhead) and saw very litle difference in attitude between these and most Punk bands. The Clash sounded more like Blue Oyster Cult in '79 than Blue Oyster Cult did!!!

ive never really listened to music as a form of rebellion, i guess i missed all that in the 70's, 80's and early 90's.

I actually LIKE punk rock!! It's the fact that most punk fans can't be seen to admit they might like the genre of HM - cos they can't be seen by their peers to be liking it!! Cos they were supposed to be the antidote to it!! Whatever that means - I thought the dross of a lot of 70's chart pop music needed blowing away personally!!!!! Some may might not like it anyway - but proper metal like Saxon, Priest etc is ace in my eyes!! In terms of musical sound, The Ratts and Motley Crues of this world are more like punk than punk fans would care to admit - with possibly the only distinguishing feature being 30 second lead guitar breaks in the middle of the songs !! The subject matter is usually sleazy too, -but punk fans wouldn't own up to liking either of those bands!!!I'm onto youse all!!Just admit it!!!!

and another thing - punk's musical style was born out of cock rock bands - and the image and styles - fact!! New York Dolls, Iggy and the Stooges, Aerosmith!! Hawkwind were the biggest influence on the Pistols - because of Hawkwind's anti-establishment views!!!

Can`t abide heavy metal or punk, prefer easy listening melodic stuff, R&B and the likes, punk is for punks and metal is for tone deaf mutants with hairy backs FACT :coool:

Everyones taste is different. Good. It's what brings you pleasure.
What pee's me off is when people condemn or look down on other peoples taste in music.

Quite true...I have just finished reading Motley Crue's "The Dirt" (again...it's a great book which I usually read about once a year, it is being made into a film due for release 2013) and punk was a major influence on Crue...they were in essence a punk band with some hard rock/metal thrown in for good measure, as evidenced on their first record.....

If Nevermind The Bollocks isn't a heavy metal album then neither is anything Motorhead ever made but The Clash stopped sounding like Blue Oyster Cult after 1978's Sandy Pearlman produced Give Em Enough Rope. In 1979 they were recording and playing tracks off London Calling and sounding like all of Joe Strummers influences rolled into one.

I once tried to make a mash up called Don't Fear The Clash City Rockers but I have no talent at all so, predictably enough, it turned out to be unlistenable shyte.
