Going this year on the Thursday and Friday. Normally take the week off work and watch it in the house but this year decided to finally go.

Has anybody been, is it as good as it looks??

I've always fancied it but never had the time.

People who have been reckon it's fantastic. I know some people who go every year without fail they reckon it's that good.

I have sat on this horse and my uncle is really good mates with Piggot as they worked at the same yard as each other (Geoff Wragg) when my two uncles were jockeys at Newmarket before they moved to NY (Belmont Park and Saratoga)

Aye, I used to go to Teesside Park regularly.
I remember once being given a tip for a horse at a Teesside park evening meeting. Trouble was when I got the tip all the bookies were shut. They didn't open at night then.
I got a taxi from Church St to the racecourse, backed the horse, it won at 100-6 and I was well happy.
Good days and a nice friendly track. I've bet with Johnny Ridley many a time at all the northern tracks.
Christ Chip, were you that snotty nosed kid stood next to his clerk????

On Cheltenham............it epitomises that well known saying " you see more on the Telly"

I've been to all the northern tracks and quite a few of the southern ones. I was a member at Donny for years and we used to get around 25 reciprocal days out with free admission to the likes of Goodwood, Newbury, Newmarket in the south and all the northern ones.
I don't go much these days, especially to the big meetings cos, as someone has already said, they are full of pissheads who don't know how to behave.
My favourite tracks are the likes of Market Rasen where everyone is a racing fan and there is a racing atmosphere.
I avoid weekend racing at all costs these days because of the aforesaid bus trips of piss artists spoiling it. I never missed the Leger or the Magnet Cup at York but wouldn't go if you paid me now.

It depends what floats yer boat. I am sure Mr Birthmark will enjoy it. Take plenty of money with you..........on top of your betting money.

Stainforth Dog Track is still going Chip.
They have modernised it to accomodate bars restaurant and executive boxes. I've been a couple of times.
A good night a the dogs can be had at Owlerton Park in Sheffield, with the waitress service etc mentioned earlier.
That's where Sheffield Wednesday get their nickname "the Owls" from.

Because they left for USA before I was old enough to start otherwise I might have taken it up. However last time was over in NY and asked my uncles trainer and owner if I could have a ride of one of the race horses he said I couldnt as I was too fat.

Aye will do. I will be drinking quite heavily on the night so won't bother during the day as i don't want to miss anything. Same on the friday. I generally love the atmosphere at racecourses and go to redcar and York each year. If I'm going for a day out then yes I'll have a good scoop but we staying 2 nights so don't need to. It will be kautos last ever race and I don't want to miss it full of drink. Iv paid for upgraded tickets to the tatterstalls as I heard bad Rumours about the best mate enclosure with views limited. We are staying in birmingham, I imagine it's not a cheap night out so will be prepared. As for cheltenham long run on the friday will either make or break me. The triumph is also a very lucky race for me and I'm hoping that pulls me out. Pearl swan if anybodys interested is my tip!! Hurricane fly on the Tuesday doubled with sprinter sacre on the Wednesday will pay for my trip. Also paddy power doing a deal were you bet £50 and they give you a £100 free bet and that is on hurricane fly, big bucks and long run. I'll be a happy man if I get that bet up

Talking of the Triumph Hurdle. In 2002 Diamond Joshua was third in the Triumph Hurdle. I used to be a member of Diamond racing, run by a guy called Steve Goodwin and I had a twelfth share in the horse. Good things were expected of it, especially over the bigger obstacles but it developed breathing problems.
There are various syndicates around and it's great fun, but don't expect to make money out of it unless you're very very lucky. It's not cheap either, but you do get information to help pay the fees.
I had one with James Hetherton as well and had some great days out with him, especially at Redcar.
Anybody interested in visiting stables etc for a behind the scenes look at the sport, there are about 20 racing stables in and around Malton in N Yorks. Each year they join together for an open day. You pay a nominal amount for a ticket which gets you into them all. You get your money's worth alone from the Easterby's who provide all visitors with the most delicious beef sarnies. It's a good day out. Saying that, it's about eight years since I've been to one so I'm assuming they still do it.

I know I shouldn't ask but.......

Chip after reading your posts today you obviously love the sport of horse racing, so why do you have a bee in your bonnet about luscombe liking a bet?? I understand the weight issue and if I'm being honest Im not happy either there but why when you have a go at him do you generally involve coral and laddies. It is his spare time after all.

You seem have an uncanny knack of missing the point. I don't think anyone has an issue with someone having a bet, he's over 18 and it's a free country.

I mentioned him being in the York Road coral two hours before a game were he was on the bench in his club tracksuit. To me that is totally unprofessional and not representing the club in a good light. What next a pint in the Grand?

Others have mentioned incidents. The last time he played he had a kite big spare tyre around his waist. It was embarrassing to see him representing Pools in that condition.

Before you say it, nobody 'hates' him they are just pointing out what is true. He doesn't conduct his life how a professional footballer should he clearly doesn't care what he eats he clearly doesn't care where he's seen in club colours.

The sad thing is he'll get a bit older before he realises his wasted opportunity then it will be too late.

Somebody you don't know from Adam calling you arrogant based on stuff you type on a message board, you've got to love some of the people who've cropped up on here recently.......

Honestly I can't be arsed anymore. I've ignored the childish pm's, I've ignored the other shit I can be bothered for every post to be jumped on by people who to my knowledge I've never spoken to in my life.

It used to be laugh on here, you could take the piss out of people without anyone taking it seriously.

When you have dried your eyes and picked up your dummy........

If people are sending you childish pm's then obviously you are coming across differently from how you think you are. Personally I think you come across as extremely arrogant, rarely funny and seem very stuck up. Maybe I'm wrong. You say you are sick of people jumping on your posts, well isn't that what you have done to me on this thread. You seem to jump on Jonny alot also. If you do it to others then you can't really whinge when it happens to you.

Go and crack open a can, have a good drink and relax.

I agree with that assessment entirely.
I don't engage with Mr PJ anymore because of his arrogant self importance and I'm really pleased that others, no matter how "new" they are have the same opinion.
He can't help but try and ridicule people. I had to slap him down because of his decision to pick on every post I made and he has targetted others.
He fails to realise that everyone won't necessarily agree with him and obviously can't handle it.
For the record, I have never sent him a PM and probably never will.
He will obviously say he doesn't do it intentionally and if that is the case then all I can say is he needs help.

Why do people even sit in bookies these days? Surely you get better odds online and you don't have to be surrounded by people who smell of piss.

Can you bet on stuff in the bookies that you can't online? I'd be surprised given that sites like Betfair let you bet on absolutely anything.

No and you get better prices online agreed. The difference is you can receive your winnings immediately. Also you have formguides and the actual race itself live if your inside the bookies.

I also hate roulette machines chip, they are the devil

They are open all the hours God sends to cater for people who want to play them wretched Roulette machines, the crack cocaine of gambling.

Corals bar you out if you back 2 winners in a row, and Betfred are a joke, the last time I went in there and tried to have £500 on a horse they were advertising in the Racing Post they would guarantee best odds about, they offered to let me have £25 on it. Think Coffin Dodger has had same problem getting money on, tho he dont seem to post on here much.

Not really bookies any more, just mini casinos.

I remember i walked into John Joyce near the supporters club as had been told by a lad in Jonjo O Neils yard to fill my boots for Christmas on Prokofiev (i think that was his name) It was 10/1 and i put £40 on it to win. I went to collect my winnings and was told "that was a strange bet" and asked as to why i had placed such a bet on an outsider and not backed it ew etc. I just said it was just a fancy and then cashier asked if i was having any more bets in her shop to which i replied no and walked out with my winnings.

I still wonder if id have said yes im carrying on betting, id have been asked to leave as they seemed very suspicious.

The bookies hate large bets going on because there are scores of people around the country who are making a living manipulating the markets by betting big in bookies and then laying bets off on betfair and betdaq when the odds come in - the bookies basically want you betting on computerised roulette - the races are just a side show.....

I seen it yesterday and was gutted. Cant see him risking him at that age if he's not 100%. Would have loved to have seen him come up the hill in the lead. Long run looks a shoe in now like. Iv got a large 4 fold on hurricane fly, sprinter sacre, big bucks and long run. Payn 22/1. Probs around half that now. Still think pearl swan for the triumph and also think the 6/1 about darlan in the supreme novices is a very good bet indeed. Bobs thread comp looks well worth a go
