How many on here can remember the old goal average which decided where you were in the league if points were the same.

To work it out you divided Goals scored by Goals conceded so got some weird GA(as it was shortened to)

Changed to Goal Difference in 76/77 our first GD was -26 our last Goal Average was 0.795, we finished 14th above Rochdale by 0.054 of GA

Rochdale have never forgiven us, the chant of "you screwed us over by 0.0054" was sung many times from the rink end the other week.

I remember that Bob, it made working out your league ladder positions from results on the radio very difficult indeed. I used to give Pools the benefit of the doubt if we were level on points with any other club.
