I prefer a minutes silence. Always seems to me the applause thing came in to hide the arseholes who can't show respect and observe the minute. A football ground in silence is a special thing, whereas (imho) a football ground with applause isn't out of the ordinary.

I agree minutes silence is much more powerful but theres always a group of little idiotic kids who can't help but snigger through it... I mean how hard is it to stay quiet for 1 minute???
