Elvisc said I can re start this so here goes.

1.The name "Hereford" comes from the Anglo Saxon "here" referring to army or formation of soldiers, and the "ford" coming from an earlier Roman term, also used in Saxon periods, referring to an area of river that soldiers could cross in close formation. Essentially Hereford started out as a place where a body of armed men could cross the Wye.

2.In the 2003/04 season they inflicted a humiliating defeat on Dagenham & Redbridge 9-0 on their own ground live on Sky television.

3.Ian Bowyer formerly of Nottingham Forest and scorer of the goal that took Forest to the European Cup Final managed them in 1987.Other former managers include John Sillett Colin Addison and Graham Turner

4.Our biggest victory against them is 4-0 which is also our biggest defeat to them

5 Former players include Steve Bull,David Icke,Mel Pejic And Ronnie Radford and Ricky George who scored the goals at Edgar Street that knocked Newcastle out of the FA cup in 1971 while still a non league team,Newcastle were then in the old 1st Division. The great John Charles was their manager that day. They lost in a replay in the 4th round to West Ham in a replay were Geoff Hurst scored a hat trick

In the film 'Ronin', Robert De Niro has a line where he mentions Hereford... only he pronounces it "Here-ford"

My old mate Gill used to laugh at 'Ports-mowth' and 'Bourne-mowth's' results coming over the PA at the end of the games.

Do they still kick the turnip from the half way into one of the goals before their home games?

It was a Swede wasn't it? I remember because some of their fans came on Rivals about the time of the infamous televised Cup Game going "Beware of the Swede" and I thought they must have a swedish striker.... only to discover that in fact their idea of bringing good luck was to dribble a swede from the half way line and put it in the net... apparently if they scored they'd win - though given there was no keeper they'd have wanted shooting if they'd missed in any case.....

1. Pitch invasion in the '99 cup game.

2. Watching the coverage of that match years later and thinking "Fooking hell, Rune Vindheim!"

3. Hearing the story about Vindheim in the Wonkey Donkey rolfl

4. Seeing HUFC written on desks in lecture theatres and bog doors up and down the country and not knowing whether it's us or them.

5. Can't think of another

Apparently Vindheim was out one night in the Wonkey Donkey, along with a few Poolies. He was pissed out of his brain and tried to tap this lass who was there with her burly fella, who then proceeded to level him!

Someone else will fill you in on the finer details.

Don't think he played for us again after that!

I was there! He was totally pissed and a complete and utter nuisance. He lynched on to a group of us but the novelty of being out drinking with a Pools player soon wore off as he was an embarrasment.

He couldn't walk straight and was being very aggressive. He kept nicking my lighted cigs and smoking them. He would refuse to give them back and got abusive. I was very close to decking him myself but as he was a Pools player and I am predominantly a lover not a fighter, Idecided to move on to the next pub to calm down instead.

He did the same trick with a lass stood at the bar and nicked her ciggie. Her boyfriend was not the sort of person who asked twice and when Vindheim refused, caught the full force of a right hook on the jaw and went down like a bag of shite.

If I remember rightly, Paul Mullen was there too and quite rightly made it known to Chris Turner. I don't know what follwed suffice to say Mr. vindheim never played for Pools again. The twat! clappp

Just a couple of points...
1. There was a City/Town log before saxon times
2. Graham Turner is not a "former" manager
3. Colin Addison was manager when we beat Newcastle not John Charles although I did watch Charlo play...he was truely something else

Going to be a tough one for us this weekend...see you all on Saturday.

Just one point.

There was a HUFC in the league in 1908. It wasn't Hereford.

So I'd change your moniker if I was you........

Can't you spot a wind up when you see one ;)

Looks like we will have a half decent following despite the 250 mile trip. At least a 53 seater plus a couple of minibuses suggests around 250/300. Our Fun Bus will be arriving 12.30/12.45 to take in the sights (well, the Pubs). Looking forward to it.

ExLandlord.

I'm struggling to get the time off work in my other job this Sat TBH. Gutted if I can't get to the match this week after travelling to Swindon, Torquay and Boston in the last few weeks.

1. They decided to win the Welsh Cup in 1990.
2. They are called the Bulls so presumably they take bull-shit...
3. Paul Dobson played for them a few times.
4. The most popular sport in Hereford is nine pin skittles.
5. They are interested in music. They have a girly choir day and most the members of the band the The Pretenders comes from there.
