My mate had his computer formatted last week,Ive put a few programmes on for him fine but if I try to play a song through any media player the machine reboots.
Am I right in assuming he has no sound drivers loaded ?

Probably installed but are corrupted, goto device manager, remove sound drivers, and refresh and it will auto install them for you.
