We're within reaching distance of what are (subjectively) some of the greatest sustained unbeaten performances in the Football League this and last century. I'm ignoring runs that overlap two seasons as they do not have a decisive impact on the final table.

In 1905/06 Brizzle City had a 21 game run of 17 wins and four draws.
In 1950/51 Preston had a 20 game spell of 17 wins and 3 draws.
In 1960/61 Tottenham won 22 out of their first 25 matches although they actually lost one of those in the middle of that sequence.

I don't have the benefit of a database to look for other potentially better ones but it's obvious they don't leave much margin for improvement. Yet if we stay focused we, Pools, have a fighting chance of doing even better. That's how enormous a performance it is right now.

Just a reminder of how awesome a task it was to get into the top three, not to mention level on points with first place, especially if you look behind us rather than in front of us:

Tanks to yer John, you're a foine feller

a note of caution look at macclesfield's points total then and now, thats also a pretty decent haul.
