Our latest Virgin Media statement had a leaflet in, offering a free Blackberry for a monthly contract of £10.21. It includes 50 minutes + 250 texts, and 1GB Mobile Web, unlimited Blackberry Messenger and Blackberry Mail, and unlimited calls to other Virgin Mobiles and from our home phone.

Knowing nothing about the deal, i'll hazard a guess at the call charges and text charges (after the allotted minutes) and the data roaming chages will be astronomical. I'm prepared to be wrong though.

Blackberry are also suffering as iPhones are trouncing them in the market and have the iPhone 5 out later in the year.

It's a great deal for people who dont text or call or use the internet very often on their phones.

Sounds like it would be fine for me then, your last line describes me to a T.

I'm tempted by it, as I've been carrying around an old Panasonic phone for years, mainly for emergencies, or for others to contact me. My only concern would be how to assure I stay within the limits. Especially the net usage, as I don't know how quickly the 1GB would be used up.

I got the bairn that deal 2 months ago.
It's a great deal with no catches just obviously a contract which lasts 24 months.

Giving that to a teenager would result in them running up a sizeable bill. They generally send 250 texts a day let alone a month.

The bairn just uses blackberry messenger since most of her friends have Blackberrys.
Since she's had it she's been well within the limit. If she goes over I'l stop her pocket money lol.
The phone is the curve 8520 which is one of the most popular blackberrys about.

I'm fine then, a teenager times four. I probably haven't sent 250 texts in my life.

Ken you'd REALLY struggle to use over 1gb of data per month. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Yeah, I have one and have all of our other services with Virgin as well. I don't use the internet on the phone though, never been able to get away with it - always seems too slow to me...

If you are already a Virgin Media customer and aren't too bothered about the Blackberry or using the internet, you can get a deal for £8.64 per month for 100 texts and 100 minutes and they have about 5 or 6 phones you can choose from for free. That's all I have as I don't use my mobile that much, the only catch is the offer ends at the end of July.

Thanks for your comments folks. I rang up about 9 last night, and it was waiting for me when I got home. Can't see that I will be using it for the net much, too much like hard work!

Your comment is shit, Blackberrys are a quality phone, had one for years and it was excellent, got an iPhone now and I prefer it to the Blackberry, but our lass has the Blackberry Torch and its an amazing phone.

After almost two months with the new phone, I can report to being very happy with it. In fact I don't know how I would have got through the best close season ever without it. My concerns about the limits haven't really come up. Of the 1024 megabytes of mobile web available, I used 0.67 of 1 meg in the first month, and I have used it a lot, keeping up with news on the season tickets news.
