..............the atmosphere of the whole club has changed.

I was in the Metro Centre with MrsBresslaw this afternoon sporting my new yellow shirt when who should i spot about 30 yds from me in a store but Sir Michael de Barron. Now under the whole regime i am of the mind that I would probably not have approached Micky as there would not have been a lot to say, i was thinking about this when Micky hastened his step and made his way toward me with a big grin on his face.
We chatted for 5 mins or so and it was all very pleasant, a nice chap he is. We talked of the game from Saturday and when i confessed to saying that as Richie picked the ball up to take the free kick i had mumbled that he shouldn’t be shooting from there, Mickey had a wry grin on his face as he told me that there were a few on the park who mumbled the same thing !!!!

Anyway, just thought i would share that with you, I'm off to watch the DVD of the game.....

as i think i have mentioned elsewhere i was at clarkeys engagement do at the staincliffe on saturday night. most of the squad were there. given they had just beaten the league leaders 3-1 to extend their unbeaten run to a million you might have expected a gang of 20 odd footballers to be partying big time.

what i actually saw was 20 odd blokes and their wags having a few drinks and a meal and chatting away to moronic awestruck gibbering idiots like me, as if it was no big thing. their attitude and behaviour was exemplary. indeed one of the lasses i was with was convinced they could not be footballers as they were so sweet.

in this day and age its testimony to pools that they have actively sought out the right kind of players and a big hats off to wilson for bringing back such an excellent spirit to the dressing room. i just pray they can go all the way and bring the trophy to the town so we can all have one huge party at the end of the season.

Isn't that what a local football club is supposed to be about?

I know it's not these days, & credit to the lads & the club for realising that good relations with the fans are important, most clubs I fear it would have been the 20 footballers partying & ignoring the fans.

WHAT a party it will be if they DO bring the trophy back

But wouldn't it be nice to have some silverware in the cabinet for our centenary season.

Agreed. I just want one day where the whole town celebrates, it'll be absolute class.

I was too young to properly appreciate the 90/91 promotion and the eventual promotion when that scouse tit ruined the club felt more like a relegation. Tranmere and Cardiff were good but they resulted in nothing

Come on!

It's nowhere near in the bag. In a lot of other seasons we'd be looking very good, but Walsall, Swindon, MK and Lincoln aren't showing any signs of going away, Stockport are flying up on the rails, Wycombe aren't dead yet and there's only 3 auto places available. We're probably no better than 50/50 yet. If you offered me guaranteed promotion right now I'd take it, even if it was via a stumble and a playoff.

I agree that titles are not THAT important at our level. Promotion is EVERYTHING. But it would be nice, no - more than nice, it would be fantastic to finally finish top after all these decades. There ain't many sides that haven't a divisional title somewhere in their locker. We haven't.

Agree wholeheartedly with all of that. But I want promotion now, so if someone offered it NOW, without the title I would snap their hands off.

Others seem to think differently though, and some others DO seem to think promotion is in the bag.

The fans all seem to think it is but the sounds from the management and players is completely different and that's where it matters.

I don't think we can be blamed for getting over excited given the run we are on and the quality of teams we are beating with relative ease but we probably all need to calm down an iota. Our 3 next games are all in the bottom 4, other teams around us have slipped up recently against similarly placed teams. We can prove our credentials as champions by winning all 3....

We have to take it each game as it comes.

We have to treat it team with respect.

We have to play each game on its own merits.

Its a game of two halves remember.

I'm with Dibbs here, promotion is the aim and it's a long way from secure. The longer the current run goes on the better chance we have, but runs all come to an end sometime and if we lost it for a spell then creeping into 7th might be the order of the day. It's nice to look at how close we are to the top, but I'm still looking with more interest at the gap down to 8th, a healthy 15 points.

I'd love it if we won the title (tm Keegan), it would be the ice on the caking, but it's defeinately a secondary concern. If we can win the next 10 on the spin, then we can start thinking about trophies ;)

Bresslaw's and chip's stories do bring a lump to the throat, a bit. It's really great to have a team like this to support...I love all of them!
Appreciate them all the more of course after the shock of last season when it all nearly went out of the window at the hands of the Nameless One.....

All part of 30 years supported your club old boy and being a POOLY. Micky B probably felt famous talking to such a distinguished fan - did you offer your autograph!

Excellent post

If we do, and I refuse to say whether we will or we won't until 5.00pm on Saturday the 5th of May, there is going to be a small corner of China that will be smashed off it's gourd by about 2am Hawaii Time.

i lkie the way wilson declared " we have walsall in our sights " after the milton keynes win and i like the way the players are saying we want to win the league.

He's a lot more explicit in stating his ambitions than Scotty was, who said once and once only that "we have to aim to go one better this time".

But there again Wilson is saying it from a postition of strength, not from one of wishful thinking.

A healthy 15 points with 14 games to go, which translated to 2002/2003 terms means we'd have to do a Newell, every single team from 3rd to 7th would have to avoid doing a Newell, and some random club from 8th downwards would have to do a Rushden to stop us getting in the play-offs.

I reckon there's a fair chance we'll be in the mix ;)
Although I hope the hell it's not THAT mix.
