...are highlighted in two reports in the Echo....the recent one in the town was where the kid was knocked down in Grange Road and the driver had his licence endorsed with six points plus fine and costs for failing to stop after an accident and failing to report it to the police.
I then read another report of a 62 year old driver in Bishop Auckland who hit a dog with his car which ran out from between two vans and was not on a lead...the prosecution said he was driving at a responsible speed and the impact was impossible to avoid...the dog was not killed but did suffer bruising... the driver stopped but then drove on and told police later he wasn't aware he had to stop and give his details. He had his licence endorsed with 5 points plus fine and costs.... confised

The lad who got six points for knocking over that girl and leaving her for dead was an absolute disgrace. Yes it was an accident, but he left the scene of an acccident AND failed to report it. The girl was critically ill in hospital. He should have lost his licence for at leats two years and he could have been jailed. I got six points on my licence for going 35mph along Easington Road ON THE SAME DAY, by a hidden speed camera. So I have as many points on my licence as this lad. I've held a clean licence for 22 years and NEVER committed a crime. DISGRACE rage
