Agree but i thought Liddle was by far man of the match, a lad behind me said 'Liddle never gets stuck in' he was soon given a clip. The muppet.

I think southampton would of took a point after the 2nd half, pools gave it a hell of a go and very unlucky not to score

Liddle MoM for me, but an all round outstanding performance from all of them. Big shout to Flinders too, he stopped 2 certain goals with great anticipation

For 0-0 that was an absolutely splendid game.

Agreed re Larkin. He certainly helped keep the pressure on their defence but sadly we also saw why he won't get retained and ultimately why he can't cut it at this level. I felt so sorry for him when he haplessly fell over the ball with the goal at his mercy but unfortunately it was Larkin all over.

An excellent point and another demonstration of the excellent job Mick Wadsworth has done since he took over from Turner.

Fantastic game and Liddle definitely MOM, even Monkhouse has upped his game, he's back to the player he was.

Well done lads you out-shone Southampton

For the first 10 minutes I thought we were going to be in for a tough night. The pace they have was causing some real problems for both Haslam and Horwood, particularly Haslam, but Collins and Hartley were as stong as ever and, encouragingly, as the half wore on our confidence grew and we started to get into the game.

At the break I said to the guys sat with me that providing we kept our organisation we'd get a point and could perhaps even nick a winner from a set piece. By the end of the game I reckon Southampton were relieved to escape with a point. We had the 2 best chances of the match and rather than tire, as I expected us to, we appeared to grow in stature the further we progressed into the game.

As I said above you can't really argue with a point against a team like Southampton. One of the best teams I've seen in League 1 this season.

Well done Pools. 5th consecutive season of third tier football here we come clappp

I agree that Lidds and Hartley were outstanding but I do think Collins was deserving of the motm. Nothing got past him

larkin set up sweeney with a great run and pinpoint cross, and gave us more going forward than anyone else in a blue and white shirt. he also did a pheonomenal amout of defensive work.

i think he may well get another season. it wouldnt suprise me if he did. he certainly seems to have gone ahead of mcsweeney in the managers thinking.

Maybe you're right.

On the whole I agree with the general comment that Larkin did well when he came on. For what its worth I think he should be a straight forward pick for any game in which 0-0 would be considered to be a good result. Tonight's match certainly fits into that bracket and it was no surprise to me when Brown made way for him at the start of the second half.

But ultimately it is inescapable that he squandered arguably our, if not the, best chance of the match. It was certainly in the top two with Liddle's slice over the bar being the other IMO. If Pools are looking to move on next season into a team that can consistently challenge the play off spots I'm not convinced we can justify keeping a striker who fails to score, despite all the hard work he puts in off the ball.

But you never know.

Larkin missed a great chance to score, a typically poor touch when a decent one would have presented him with a one on one. He'd be a great player if a football pitch didn't have a goal at either end. He was good again tonight but e'll never score us a crucial goal.

I'd also mention Horwood tonight, the right winger Chamberlain is reportedly worth £10,000,000 and wanted by Man Utd and Arsenal, for someone who I read one shite spouter suggest over the weekend wasn't a very good left back he never gave him a kick. He had a set back on Saturday but bounced back superbly.

Horwood was all over the shop the first twenty minutes but recovered well for the rest of the game.

Larkin's confidence infront of goal is shot to pieces and you just can't see him ever turning the corner and starting scoring. Did well otherwise.

Thats the only bit factually wrong with what you said. The bloke did very well last night, for him. For the first time that I can remember he created chances and had them.

Sadly, the chances he missed were comical in the extreme.

But you cant let that detract from what was his best performance in a pools shirt, by a huge country mile.

But I do have a question, and its very embarrassing for the club in my view.

Have you ever watched a match, or played in one, where when a side has a corner, the striker goes back and defends on the half way line?

Has to be something wrong somewhere for that to happen. And please dont make excuses like one bloke did in the town end, saying Larkin had the pace to outrun their strikers....so thats why he went back.

Its pathetic, and just shows how far back the other strikers have gone at this club.

But if Larkin could play like every week I would have no problem with him. Certainly wide right. Sadly, I am more of a striker than he is.

Oh, and dspite what some may think, I applauded the bloke off at the end, like always.

banghead - The lad plays well and still gets hammered

Great team performance. Everyone of them was a 8 or 9 out of ten. If i had to pick a MOTM I'd pick......all of them!
