During the second half someone at the bac went to the steps to take a photo, when I looked round there was a guy & a bewer holding a St Georges flag with Hartlepool United in one corner & EDL in another.
Did anyone else see this ?
They proved how crap they are in the way they brought their flag yet only got it out for a photo & put it away again.
Pathetic !!!

the flag was actually at the front of the seats and fred the female steward removed it and gave it back to the group who stood up.
must admit i was a bit disapointed at some of the people who were amongst that group including at least 1 member of this board

Fair play to them, this country would be royally knackered though if it wasn't for the EDL's great work in combatting Islam extremism.

Don't know if Mr Bus is referring to me..? ....as I certainly wasn't posing for any photographs with the flag (nor would I), wasn't chanting 'EDL' or with the group that were stood near the front (who didn't actually take the flag in). I did go to collect the flag when it was removed from behind the goal about half way through the first half because it belonged to someone in the group I was with and I just happened to be the closest as I was stood on the aisle.

The lass steward was just going to chuck the flag (some may believe fair enough) but she couldn't explain to the people that challenged her how or why it was offensive. If anything more commotion was caused from removing the flag than if it had of been left and collected after the game.

As for my own viewpoint I don't support the EDL, UAF, BNP or any any other movement. I do believe in free speech as long as it isn't being deliberatly provocative, offensive or racist. I don't believe the flag caused any harm but maybe others disagree..?

I was stood with a couple of lads in the second half one of whom from time to time shouted EE EDL.
I've known the lad a good few years and apart from his views on immigration is a decent enough man.
Me and my mate thought at first it was a protest at energy bills going up:)
Oh and chip, what's wrong with fooooking Barbour jackets!
Had mine a few years but it is unfortunate all the chavs are starting to wear them now:)

Oi Bus if it is you are referring to you need to remove the hairs from your ears.
Me and my pal were singing EE EDF in a pisstake against a chap standing with us singing EDL.
Still, each to their own I say.
Im not surprised to see the influx of people jumping on the bandwagon considering the state the country is getting into.

From what I've seen of them these EDL lot are invariably thick as shit and attract the worse kind of louts. There are some real issues with immigration but a bunch of thugs shouting and screaming uneducated nonsense is counter productive.

Mind we could all shop in River Island and Burtons and all walk round in the same stuff aswell!

Although I don't agree with the EDL in general, what makes their flag racist?

Does it have death to all muslims painted on it or something?

Because the EDL are a racist organisation & their flag represents them ?

You've answered with a question and I'm not sure. I don't know enough about them to decide if they're a racist organisation or not. I just don't see how a flag can be racist unless it has something outwardly offensive or provocative on it.

exactly. flags, banners, chants, symbols, can all be offensive because of what the represent. The EDL seem to me to consist of brainless idiots who cant expand their minds to contemplate the issues their actually arguing about. In fact i hope hartlepool attract more new fans from different race and religion. In my opinion, if one of my friends, hartlepool supporter or not was involved or supporting racist organisation i would not only be embarrassed to be seen with them at a game, i wouldnt want to see them much at all.

I'm not trying to get at you neither do I support the EDL in any way shape or form. I was just curious to how it was racist.

EDL has no place in football - when I said this at the match I got a lecture in EDL protocol - maybe they should carry leaflets!!

These were mainly a group of young lads who had been drinking since 9am - and came and stood in front of people as they wanted to create an atmosphere - they did - a negative one. Many people moved away from them as views were blocked.

The lads at the back had been great - these muppets took away from that by chanting against or out of time with them at the back.

You can hardly compare the EDL flag with a Swatsika!!
As someone has said it's only a flag and if they want to show it at the matches then fair play, it certainly doesn't offend me.
It's a foooking free country.
Anyway, I go to watch the football not some flag which has no relevance to the day out I'm having.
I don't know why people are getting so upset about it !!

I don't see what all the fuss is about either. The flag had EDL wrote in the corner - whoopy do. I doubt a single person on here would of known or mentioned it if the flag hadn't of been taken down (by someone who didn't even know what they were on about). I don't understand how anyone could consider it to be racist..?

I was only stood with one, not with the group at the back.
Mind, the lad in question has been going to pools home and away as long as I have!! I didn't even know he was into the EDL but he has changed his political views that many times he will probably be a Jehovas Witness next week!!!

No objection to Flag from me - but the chanting would have been more constructive supporting the team (as it was a football match), and having one of them trying to inform me of the group when I'm watching the match is something I can do without - as he was told!

I didn't even notice any chanting.

I'd just ignore it, at least it's a change from the equally irrelevant 'No surrender to the IRA'. I'm sure the kids in question will grow out of it.

I personally don't like the way these kids take the piss of stewards at every away game, these are just people trying to earn a few extra quid. They don't deserve to be belittled by pissed up adolescent lads who've probably never had a job themselves. I don't understand why they just wouldn't rather watch the game and get behind the team, which in the main they did very well on Boxing Day.

Not defending them but a few chants and a 3x3 flag cant be compared to an organisation which murdered millions.

The EDL, BNP etc are obviously not the answer, it's upto the present government to curb immigration and the sooner better in many peoples eyes.

Id hate to be a steward. For fooooking £15 a game its just not worth it especially when you have pissed up thugs like Leeds coming to town.

You've got to be a bit careful generalising with emblems. I have to say this ancient Hindu sign shocked me a bit when I first seen it.
