We were due to play Leeds and it was postponed several times. They were a big club back then.

Mind you did you ever see the old dressing rooms? Damp everywhere and just one old fashioned, badly stained bath in the room.

Pools dressing room had a bath which was in a room off to the side. The away team had an outsized sink in the middle of the floor and I was genuinely shocked when I seen it, even though I was a kid from a deprived area of town. Apparently the visiting player having a "bath" would get warm water hoyed over him if the sinkwater temperature had dropped too much. It really was a shambles to be fair - I'm amazed ANY team agreed to get changed/ washed down in there!!!
The Pools players had to get bathed in ever-dirtying water in the one bath!!!

I can remember vividly the Leeds game.
It was foooking freezing and we had fans climbing the floodlights just to see the game.
How we got 16000 into the ground that day il never know.

I think Leeds had the Rink End but didn't fill it. The barrier collapsed at the Town End and the police thought it was a pitch invasion aimed at supporting the Pools fans who were being attacked in the Millhouse corner of the Rink End. My sister was in the Rink End after her non-Pools going boyfriend got some tickets late on, they weren't overly impressed with the Leeds fans behaviour.*

* All this is based on the lager addled memories of a fifteen year old and could be a load of old bollix.

It was certainly the most packed that I've ever seen the place. Even the walkway in front of the Millhouse was jam packed. I was about to say it was probably a larger attendance that the 1957 Man United game but they say that there was probably 5000 over the official attendance in that time.
