A mate of mine who has a butchers shop wants a website and asked me if I would come up with a site name and register it.

I was amazed to find that pigstrotters.co.uk was still available. I thought that pretty much any common phrase would be long gone.

Mr I, when setting up this website is this a free to run or will he have to pay a monthly fee?

If its free could you tell me the site address, as may be looking to set up a basic website.

Thanks

Nope it ain't free mate, far from it at almost 20gb of traffic a month. There are free options out there but they are supported by adverts. This is precisely what we wanted to avoid. Also free sites give you little in the way of support or access to PHP or the database.

When this site was originally set up it was on a free server. Two crashes later and complete losses of all previous posts (no back up facility on the free site) we moved to a paid hosting site.

Is it a forum you are looking to set up or another kind of site?

Ah yes, I misread.

Costs to register a URL (website address) a couple of quid. Trouble is that its difficult to find anything memorable which is why I was suprised to find pigstrotters.co.uk was available.

Setting up a web page from there will be not much for the basic site as its only a glorified word document and thereafter about a fiver a month for hosting.

I've read there on about making some new kind of dns system to run alongside the current one, they reckon we'll run out of meaningful ones in the next 4 or 5 years
