A few quotes from the Brighton message board

"Hartepool - what an utterly pointless club, I wish they would just fuck off.

Oh well, at least their 3000 fans will get to enjoy another century of mid table mediocrity. "

"My concern is that from what I heard we were basically kicked out of the game by a rather talentless bunch of journeymen footballers. Lets hope that we learn how to cope with this kind of treatment. Sometimes you need to fight to win, you cant just play pretty football against some of the cloggers we will come up against."

"Fucking dirty, inbred, scum-sucking, monkey-hanging, Northern BASTARDS."

"A tip to the others below us; just send out a bunch of thugs to kick holes in us. Nice. "

"I would quite happily see us get another red card for someone to really lump one of there players. Preferably Austin."

Sounds like they are a bit upset with the result.

A load of 13 year olds who can't handle a loss. Other Brighton fans on the board have said as much themselves. Look at it this way we were at the game and know they're talking crap. As for us being thugs it was their player who was shown a straight red.

Their whining is exactly the same sort of bulldust that the supporters of Peterborough and Plymouth came up with when we beat them. Supporters of clubs who for some unfathomable reason seem to view themselves as far bigger than they actually are.

It least it will give them all something to talk about on their long trip home

bang on Mr Bramstein - I do not give a fuck what other fans think of Pools cos their opinion doesn't count for shit. Only the opinions of Hartlepool fans matters concerning Hartlepool United FC
We will be Poolies until our dying breath and that is all that counts. I respect others who follow their own clubs until they take the piss out of who we are. I make no apology for the club I support or its history - cos I know one Hartlepool fan is worth a hundred fans of the likes of Man United etc - and I'm proud to be one of them.

I like this one:

"Hartlepool crowd only 3,073 against top of the league... "

Rather oddly I was thinking that top of the league european superteam Brighton brought less than 500?

I suppose it was too cold up here

Ah well, the Brighton fan I met in the Wharf after the game seemed a decent chap at least, fully appreciative of Pools. Said we were the best team he has seen Brighton play all season. He said the result was a fair one.

to be fair brighton have always had a decent away following, and those up here today will be the diehards.

they will remember the 2542 gate when we played them at the withdean in nov 2008.

they will also remember the constant sub 3000 gates when they played at gillingham.

I am quite surprised they didn't bring more today as they do have a good away support. Crawley is quite a big Brighton supporting town so maybe they chose to go to Darlo instead

It is apparently due to a game that took place between the two clubs 30 or so years ago in which there was a lot of fighting and some Brighton fans died in the violence.

The rivalry was born of this I believe.

How much time do you fellas have to spare?

Surely you can't really have read all 39 pages!

I didn't finish the first one.

I didn't intend to, but.... it was like a day in the life of a man so optimistic, he fills the crossword in in ink. This was optimism with a reality chaser. This was their day, from the moment they set off from their cosmopolitan candyfloss factory on the south coast, the result was a cast iron certainty, but unseen in the background, fate was quietly slipping the lead into the Poolie boxing glove.
The entire post was a chronicle of their day, they awoke rampant conquerors and ended it melancholy, like one who searched for the leak in lifes gas pipe with a lighted candle ... meanwhile, the stay at home keyboard pundits were like mourners peeling onions who then descended into knee jerk bile and sullen, juvenile resentment.
As Oscar Wilde said ( of their visit)... some cause happiness wherever they go; others when they go.
