I think we've messed it up now.

Would have been great too see a world cup over here.

I dunno, i read the other day spain and portugal havent worked together well on their bid so portugal might of nacked the Spain and Portugal co host bid, which just leaves us and russia if assuming australia and holland bids werent strong enough. and to be honest, compared to Russia, we sare angels, maybe Fifa, like the rest of the world disagree with how their government acts, especially as this week another journalist who spoke out against them was killed, then maybe fifa will go for us. fingers crossed.

newcastle and sunderland hosting world cup games would be amazing.

I read an article the other day from a Russian journalist stating that a world cup in Russia would be a nightmare with trouble and grounds that are not fit for puropse.

The point is England could host a world cup tomorrow if required, we are a small country with amazing footballing facilities and you can travel to most areas in under 4 hours.

The only thing going for Russia is they have never had it before and the fact our media is out of hand. We havent had the competition since 1966 and its about time we had it again, why Germany got it before is a mystery to me.

Euro 96 was a success, we proved to the football world that we could host a tournament. So in terms of location/logistics/facilites/security/safety we are good to go on that front. The rest is political ... :-(

our media is 'out of hand' because its exposed widespread corruption within FIFA ?

so we should allow one of the most bent, self-serving, back-slapping bunch of profiteers and crooks off the hook, just to get a world cup ? taz

isn't this the bunker ? the bastion of anti-premiershite (sic) posturing and good ole 'grassroots' football ?

FOOK 'EM. They've been caught with their fingers up to the wrists in the backhander pie, and literally with their noses in the trough, and we should feel sorry for them because they don't approve of journalists that they can't either buy off or hoodwink, or pissed off with the journos for inve3stigating them and supposedly ruining our chances of hosting in 2018. Blatter and his cronies are the bane of football, and the sooner they ger their fookin comeuppance the better.

I'd also like to know why Mr Compo is so surprised Germany got it.

It's clear why Compo keeps talking about his degrees; his posts on threads like this suggest he went to Wingate Comp.

I agree with all of that, thats the sad part, you either get rid of your morals and schmooze up too blatter and his bessies and get the world cup, or do what our lot have, exposed them for the corrupt corporation they are yet risk the chance of us hosting a world cup.

It's obvious we can host it, fuck sake we could host it with stadiums from league 1 and 2 (Sheff Wed, Southampton, Chesterfield etc) if we needed too.

So it's clearly the politics.

Because they have had the competition since we have last had it surely it should be based on 1) if you have the facilities to host the competition then 2) if its "your" turn.

Everyone in the footballing world knows the world cup would be brilliant here and everyone would want to win it. Even if your not from England winning the world cup in the country that invented it, with the most iconic historic stadium in the world would be something dreams are made of.

With regard to my comment on the media I was making the point that everything about football is highlighted over here, in spain, Italy etc all this stuff about footballers shagging about wouldnt even get the time of day.

Also I know that papers are having these stories to sell papers but why do it at the cost of damaging our bid and all the things that come with a world cup
