Grandstand is no more

Saturday dinner-times will never be the same again, and who can forget the vidiprinter

It certainly launched a few successful careers in Frank Bough, David Coleman and Des Lynam, but did anyone actually watch it anymore? i did

It looks like Sky have put a great british institution to bed

I used to love Saturdays in the early 80's when i was a nipper(when Pools were away), flicking between World of Sport with Dickie Davies and Giant Haystacks or Big Daddy doing another belly-bounce!!! and Grandstand with Desmond Douglas playing Table Tennis or Joe Lydon diving over for another try.Waiting for the results to come in whilst watching the vidiprinter and listening to Radio Tees was the highlight of my Saturday though   :sweet:

Ah well, Jeff and football AM it is from now on.

A shame like.

Sir Jeff is now the 'face' of Saturday afternoon football, im surprised the beeb never tried to get him in.

Although Football isnt just restricted to Saturday afternoons, and that could have been a big reason for the demise of Grandstand.

Never mind the videprinter what about the real original teleprinter with paper, ink ribbon and everything!
The thing used to bob up and down while it was idling ... then it would suddenly spring to life as the letters came up one by one H-A-R-

.....
