"A certain rivalry has existed between Hartlepool and Sheffield Wednesday since the Yorkshire club beat Pools in the 2005 play off final at Cardiff to win promotion to the Championship."

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't this "friction" between us and Sheff Wed developed fairly recently?

We knocked them out of the Carling Cup at Hillsborough at the start of 2003/04 season on penalties.

They beat us twice in the League at Hillsborough.

Then we beat them at home in April 2005 when Boydie scored a hat trick at home. I still remember the third goal - it was absolutely sublime on what was a very wet night.

Then they beat us at Cardiff. I still think it wasn't a penalty. If that hadn't been given and scored to take the game into extra time.

We were eight minutes away from the Championship.

Then they knocked us out of the League Cup in 2007 at Hillsborough with a flaming LAST MINUTE goal in extra time. banghead

And then they beat us in a friendly last year.

And now this weekend, they thrash us at home 5-0 in the League and this attack near Church Street happens.

So really, doesn't this whole thing with Wednesday go back to more than just Cardiff? sctatchinghead

You know before long, if Darlington don't get promoted back to the League soon, I can see Sheffield Wednesday becoming more important for us every time we play them.

What happened on Saturday has nothing to do with any football rivalry that might or might not exist. Normal rivalries don't lead to this sort of trouble, nutters who prefer fighting to football do.

To be honest it doesn't matter how far it goes back and results of any previous game , they could have beat us on Goal difference to win the title in 2004/05 and in the same season beat us in the League and FA Cup Finals.

There is no excuse for fans having a go at other fans simply because they support a different club.

Saturday in Station Approach had nothing to do with football.

Again POK you totally miss the point, it had nothing to do whatsoever with who won in 2003 or who won in 2005 etc.
