Many thanks Phil, I'd not seen that clip before, made all the better by Marc Bolans intro, especially as my wife's a Bolan / Tyranasaurus Rex fan.
Interesting that there was no Dave Brock in the clip but a good showing from the late Robert Calvert.
Thanks again much appreciated.

We saw all of those bands live around that time, made easier by living near London. Funny enough I was playing a Stranglers compilation today in the car on the way to work - also from the same period in time. I'd forgotten how good they were especially with the original line up that included Hugh Cornwall. Live they were one of the best bands around especially in small / medium venues, with Hugh's aggression and Dave Greenfields classically trained keyboard contribution - for an encore they used to do the Beach Boys 'Fun Fun Fun'. What wonderful memories. They often played in a pub in West London called the Kensington that had the entrance styled like a jukebox.
What happy memories.

I've got an MP3 and it is crammed full of everything from a rare recording of the Tornados doing Telstar live circa 1962 to Joan as a Police Woman with most things inbetween from heavy metal / thrash metal / grunge to shoe gazing. Some Hawkwind including a 20 minute version of 'You Shouldn't Do That' live, Rage Against the Machine, Captain Beefheart, Gene, Solex, Gorky's Zycotic Mynci, Spiritualised, Prolapse, Lush, Cocteau Twins, Joy Division, Crispy Ambulance, Extreme Noise Terror, Clash, Stranglers, Van Der Graf Generator, Babes in Toyland, Blondie, Plaid, Tortoise, Bowry Electric, Fall there's even some Field Mice & Picture Center and that's just what I can remember off the top of my head. Oh yes there's some Boards of Canada.

A practice studio, a drum kit and a PA - I've seen professional bands with less!

aye the field mice for starters.

im listening to the "new" sonic youth album mr hawklord. its not new per se, simply a collection of b sides and rarities cobbled together to boost the geffen coffers.

its bobbins. by their standards anyhow.

mr elves your lizzy has got bass player written all over her.

god knows what our jasmin is gonna do like. she has her fathers musical genes im afraid. tone deaf and cant keep time.

I still love Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth and mostly everything after that as well. I've been listening to Melt Banana today - your mention of the Peel sessions reminded me of seeing them live there - one of the most exciting sessions - there were about 50 people crammed into the tiny Maida Vale studio - the bass guitar was bigger than the bass guitarist and we were sat by her. The guitarist had more effects gadgets than most music shops. Peelie was like a proud dad that night, watching the band that he had solely championed put on an excellent show.
From your description, Jasmin sounds like a 'natural'. I'd go for a female version of the Fall.

It's 'Hassan I Sahba' off the Quark Strangeness & Charm' album - the track is also sometimes called 'Assassins of Allah' and is on many of the compilation albums available as well as there quite recent live 'Spaced Out in London'. The band still do it live - it's one of the most popular tracks.
