Thought he was Man of the match tonight, knowing he has cover in Gamble and Murray brought out the best in him.

Give us the midfielder pushing forward we've missed.

The Sweeney we have missed! He ran himself into the ground tonight.

Then again, I don't think any player had a poor game tonight - a team performance - all worked well.

A word about Wadsworth - he let players know when they made mistakes tonight - and told them in no uncertain terms - and gave praise when earned.
He also had a dig at the lino - asked him if he didn't give the handball because he only handled it with one hand !! Then added that he (the lino) had had a good game up to that point!!

He played in position that was totally suited to him. He doesn't get enough of the ball when he plays in a two in the centre of midfield he covers too much ground! He has always made good runs in the final third and tonight provided a real outlet into the channels. He's not the best footballer in the World but he's as fit as they come and isn't slow. All three players in the centre of the park looked suited to the role they played tonight, Murray hardly put a foot wrong and Gamble looked a different player,

That's the benefit of having someone like Wadsworth who can asses players and shape a team, he’s a proper experienced coach .We have some decent players, if we can be as organised and solid as we were tonight we'll be fine.

It is very obvious from Turners interviews after the game tonight that he is no longer picking the team. I'm not getting carried away, one some of our more influencial attacking players don't look like lasting 90 minutes (to be fair Boydy worked his arse off tonight but still looked paggered) and two 4-5-1 is fine until you are chasing a game but it looks prety good so far.

Sweeney has always been effective when making his lung bursting runs into the box. Apart from anything else it causes panic and forces the opposition to put people out of position by tracking him.
On Saturday he covered every blade of grass and is the epitomy of the description " box to box".
His going off the boil was co incidental with the demise of Tinkler and to be fair to the lad he has never lost his enthusiasm and willingness to play in any position or to any tactics.
When you look at his current performances they are exactly the same as when he used to play the role before.
It is only a matter of time before he starts scoring goals and the one man who understands Sweeney's game of getting forward into goalscoring positions is his mate Boydy. They play well together.
At last we seem to have a thinking coach who is able to shape a team around its strengths. Everybody seems to know what he is supposed to be doing and so far it is extremely encouraging.
Did anyone see the sitter O'Donovan missed last night???????

i thought we did well to advance sweeney a little late second half when they were pushing up to try get back into the game, it ment they loeft acres of space for sweeney to roam.

i love how when we win its clear Turner isnt picking the team clappp

maybe he is picking the team and got it right. Heaven forbid. I like wadsworth and they speak highly of each other so lets hope this partnerships a winning one.

He virtually said as much after the game, the organisation and shape of the team is down to Wadsworth, he is taking all the training and doing all the tactics so you can love it all you want!

I agree with the sentiment that whatever is happening the most important thing is getting results, it just seems that things have changed quite significantly since last season when the gum bashers and doom mongers were telling everyone willing to listen that they haven't. I wasn't having a dig at Turner more praising Wadsworth's early impact.

It's nice to see us not trying to fit square pegs (Edit; What you can't even type in p e g s on here now, cheers Talbot   ) into round holes for once, we are playing to strengths of the players we have. We have pretty much rigidly played 4-4-2 (apart from a few games last season) whatever personnel we've had available for a number of years.

We even have a proper left back! For once at the moment we can say we don't have anyone playing out of position. I'd have released Sweeney it was my choice at the end of last season as he was awful in the main looking totally incapable of playing centrally in a four man midfield. He is totally suited the role he played last night though and it was great to be reminded of what he has to offer, long may it continue.

I said almost the same thing to Groovy walking away from the ground last night. That it could of been a new challenge for him at a different club.

Hopefully his form will continue and he will get amongst the goals again. If Monkhouse can get 10/11 from the wing last season then I'm sure if Sweeney plays forward as he was last night then he can more than match that this season.

It was an excellent team performance with everyone putting in a good shift. Sweeney and Boyd's determination were first class and everything seemed to function very smoothly. Monkhouse had an excellent game. When he's on form he can go past players without looking like he's even trying (which some would argue he often isn't  )

It will be interesting to see how things go on Saturday against a Swindon team whom I imagine will be very keen to make amends for their surprise defeat to Brighton on Saturday but if the lads put in a performance like that then hopefully we'll have our first three points of the league campaign.
