Have sold all their tickets for the game on 28th August.
I bet they could have filled the Mill House Terrace too if they where offered tickets.
Hopefully we'll sell out too. bbolt

Agreed and it was in one of the worst weather playing conditions I have seen, we made them look like a team two divisions below us was a brilliant night capped of by Boyd's lob at the end.

You know the paranoramic picture of the Vic that they sell in the club shop was that taken that night? I have it at home and think it is.

Yes I was there but let's be honest, who expected us to do any less than win there?
The Sheff Wed match was better imo because people expected Sheff Wed to win.
Plus the way Boyd scored that 3rd goal!!!!

The Sheff Wed match was indeed very good, but in response to the "most satisfying match" then surely it has to be that victory in our only ever visit (to date) to the loids big daft ground. The fact that people think that we were "expected" to win only makes it more satisfying that it was so comprehensive and that we didn't fall flat on our arse and cock it up!

But don't you get a better feeling when we beat a team that is better than us?
It would mean more to me to beat a title chasing opponent than someone like darlo.
You can't climb the table only beating teams like Darlington so therefor when we do beat someone who is high up the league it's more satisying because you know you have earned valuable points.

Serious question(s), and not patronising in any way, but how old are you?

Do you remember many derby matches with darlow? Do you remember what it's like to lose against them, as just because they're crap at the moment they've beaten us on many occassions and certainly rubbed it in?

I'm 25.
I do remember a few derby matches and can remember getting beat by them.
I understand where you are coming from, i'm just looking at it from a different point of view (the point of view where darlo mean nothing more to me than any other team).

One of my best memories not the most satisfying was when Joe Allon scored against darlo at the tin shed end in the last minute, I could have kissed him that day as it kept us up.

Darlo were flying at the time of our 3-0 win, on an unbeaten run of 13 games and playing very good football. We had a few scares before the first goal went in (Dimi's save anyone?) so I wouldn't say we were expected to win.

For me the most satisfying games are the ones where it's really close all the way through, Luton 4-3 for example. But the Darlo one was indeed special.

Both great matches, each with a memorable goal.
Boyd's chip for his third goal in awful conditions against the Wendies and Barron's pass with a superb finish by Eiffion against the Loids.
Honestly don't know which I'd pick as the best of the two. Both great victories for different reasons.

When Joe Allon scored that last minute winner was I think the most I have ever celebrated at a pools match.
Can't remember who was in goal for us but he put in a match winning performance between the sticks.

Paul O'Connor

I'd forgotten that Steve Howard was the player to go off near the end, so that Joe Joe Joe could come on for his goal!!

A lot of young people haven't witnessed much of the intense rivalry that exists between us and Darlington.
On the 25th of this month it will be nine years, yes nine, since they beat us in a league game.
As more and more years go by without us playing them, the memory of the rivalry will be just that........a memory.
A bit like the memory of the rivalry we had with Gateshead.
Beating teams like Sheffield Wednesday and Forest in the league mean much more to me than beating Darlo, simply because I never thought I'd see the day when we were in the same league.
It's a shame we didn't do it to Leeds.

Darlo??????????????????? Who the hell are Darlo???????????????????????????

I am 27, but happly I can remeber playing them back in the day as I started going to pools with my dad in 1990. There is nothing like playing Darlo and I fear it will be a long time before we play them again. The defeat which hurt the most was in the play-off semi final (i cant remember the year) to get out of Division 3, happy though that Peterbrough beat them in the final 1-0 i think.

I'd love to see Darlo in league 1 playing us this season.
It's been ages since we had a "real" derby game and sheff wed, Leeds etc hardly compensate.
I'm sure one season we played Darlo, York and Scarborough all in the same season.

If the current negativity regarding funding that is coming from the manager at the moment gets to its logical conclusion you will get your wish to see derby games again, although it probably won't be in league one. sadx

Think the last time i had tears in my eyes was away at Bristol City in play offs. Kinda tears of joy though that we battled so hard and were so unlucky not to get through.

Have to say my best game for all the emotion and the fact that we had done nothing for years and the majority of time me supporting pools was this game in the 99/00 season 0-3 away to Hull:

http://www.inthemadcrowd.co.uk/cgi-bin/ ... p?oid=3907

We won with 10 men and got into the play offs, granted we lost in the semi final but the way that we won on the last day of the season was brilliant.

The only down side was the idiots from Hull smashing in our mini bus windows in the car park on the way home.

to be honest you would have to be quite sad to class beating the loids in a derby game ahead of promotion clinchers and play off games.

I reckon you'd have to be quite sad not to have that game in your top 5, but hey ho, life is all about opinions, even yours.

Without putting the thought into a definitive top 5 of Pools games I've been at I reckon there'd be two v darlow (the 3-0 at the White Elephant and the 2-1 Micky Brown and Joe Allon game at Felchams), plus the Tranmere away play off semi, the Hull away play off clincher and maybe either the Exeter or Bournemouth play off clincher.

But then again there's probs some that I'm not remembering off the top of my head too.

It was nice to beat Darlo 3-0 in the Echo chamber but top five ever? Do give over . It was almost definitely more satisfying beating them 2-0 in the first full season under Turner when Reynolds ‘so rich it’s unbelievable outfit’ rolled into town, Hodgy was manger and everything!! So it’s not even my favourite ever win over Darlo!

Putting that result into context we shouldn’t have even been in that division, we still had the spine of the team that had finished 6th twice in League One. Beating a mid table fourth division outfit when we were a better side than that level can’t be classed as one of out best ever results. The Walsall 3-1 home win, and winning away at Swindon were far bigger results from that season alone.

The Sheff Wed 3-0, Tranmere 2-0 in the playoffs, beating Stoke 2-0 last season, the Luton 4-3 (nothing to do wit Newell obviously…) and Grimsby 8-1were all far more satisfying for me without even thinking too hard. That's without going back to the likes of the Palace cup win, or the 90/91 promotion season.

Yep, you're right.

That has to be in the top 5, possibly even in the top 1. And yes, it's one of the ones that I said I might have forgotten about off the top of my head.

Thanks for mentioning it and reminding me though, as the thought of it has actually brightened up my day somewhat as I've had a bit of a crap afternoon, although the thought of how long ago it was (and the fact that I didn't remember it) does make me feel old!

beating villa at home in the early 70's
losing at cheltenham after richies penalty
winning at tranmere after richies penalty
beating northampton to end our promotion season
losing at scunny 4-0 and going up the same day

and thats without any loids games

and probably more memorable ones that will come back to mind

(I'm not old enough to be one of them, honest.) bbolt

As a 13 year old it wouldn't have been allowed for me to be there, but I was among the 11,011 on the following Saturday, to celebrate our promotion against the same team. I must have been one of the few still standing watching as virtually everyone else invaded the pitch. I don't remember for certain, but I think I may have shed a tear or two.

Dam, I forgot about the Palace cup win, that goes up there the first team to knock a Premier League team out of the cup. Thank you Lenny for falling over.

which he did quite a lot, especially in possession. However, I am certain it was Nicky Southall who was, ahem, maliciously assaulted by Richard Shaw for the penalty.

I think you right there, dam beer killing my brain cells, didnt Lenny hit the post with a header or Nigel Martin pulling of a great save at the rink end?

and probably more memorable ones that will come back to mind

That's a good list, well almost, beating Villa at home in the early 70's (it was74/75 season) would certainly be in my list of top 5, IF it ever happened. But it was a 1-1 draw(lost replay 6-1 at Villa Park) unless my memory has definitely gone and we played them some other time.

EDIT Ok I replied to this quote before completely reading the thread just seen your amendment further down the thread.

I'd agree with Chip's most memorable game but the tension got to me beforehand. I drank far too much and can't remember much of the match, or the pub after, or the party somewhere off Elwick Roadwhere I finally keeled over. I do remember a very bad head the next day.
