I believe your not allowed over the lock gate because they have left it open for ships to come and go?

I asked the same thing about why were closing roads because we have more traffic, something to do with the park and ride buses apparently?

I nearly got nicked on Saturday night for trying to cross the loch gates. A complete lack of common sense from the plod and the bouncers / stewards. There was only a trickle of people wanting to cross, some were allowed because they had some sort of pass. It didn't go down very well when I told them that the people of Hartlepool were footing the bill for the event and that they needed to brush up on their communication skills....

Marina pizza also lost themselves a customer last night because of the way the oaf in the shop went on when I asked for a chicken wrap. I apparently should of known that they had a limited menu set up stpid . The general attitude of some of the stewards and businesses over this weekend has been very poor, if visitors were spoken to in the same sort of way then it is almost guarenteed that they won't come back.

I thought Ocean Colour Scent were ok mind..

Limited menu, what a load of bollocks the place only has about 20 things on the menu as its the size of the closet under my stairs.

I bet the cheap parmo's and chips were on the menu, the staple for any Garlands worker back in the day.

The Grayfields Show, The Headland Carnival and Dock Rock all rolled into one with a few fancy ships.
Masses of empty spaces on the long walk round from the railway tracks.
Says a lot really for the millions spent:)

I would complain to the Tall Ships organisers, not the council as it was/is them who got everything in place

PS

I seem to remember the same old faces bleating like sheep when Grand Central started their service from Hartlepool station, somethings never change

Cannot see why some are chewing their gums about this event. Granted I didnt go so cant comment on the layout or the routes etc.

However people always winge that there is nothing to do in the town, this event is FREE, so whats the big deal if somethings arnt open or you have trouble getting about in your car for 3 days of the year.

I must concur with TA. The event isnt perfect but its such a rare occurance that there was always going to be some mistakes. Unless something like that is hosted yearly then there will always be some problems. Overall, it has been a success imo especially when you consider the innapropriateness of the area for such an event, the following picture shows one of the reasons why...

Fantastic event well done Chunky monkey and everyone concerned with the organising and running of the tall ships.
Little old Hartlepool with a population of 90-000ish welcome's and puts on an outstanding weekend with over 500-000 people turning up.
We the people of Hartlepool should be proud.

theres sheloads of free parking over our side.

anywhere on the central or old cemetery road for instance.

if the council are clawing back a tenner a pop from out of towners for parking to pay for the event thats a good thing surely ?

No official free parking that I saw, everywhere had "resident only" or "no event parking" signs up. Still, didn't stop me or alot of other people.

Parking aside though, I must say we had a great day out, the Moroccan lamb wrap I sampled was spot on.

Dear God man, whats the big problem its a event based on the Tall Ships race not a music or arts fest like the riverside. I think its brought more money into the town than has took out, hightened the image and tourist draw for the town and hopefully will make people return to go to the historic quay etc.

How many of the caterer or fairground owners are from the town?
Not foooking many or if any at all.
Even the security firm is from down sarf somewhere:)
The Negroes were excellent as they usually are, the bairn enjoyed the BBC 1 thing, apart from a few nice ships it's all food and fairground rides.
Didn't get down to see OCS so can't comment on how good they were but even foooking Stockton got the Human League, Calvin Harris and Mercury Rev!!!

So what if the caterers are from out of town, have you ever stopped to think the ones from Hartlepoo either didn't apply or thought they didn't have too

Same goes for the security, everyone had a chance to bid, perhaps they were asking too much?

And again its the 'Tall Ships', not bludding some skangy piss ridden overblow manky music festival

Did you go through Stockton?
The place was bouncing and at a fraction of the price it cost foooking small ships!!
It will certainly boost some egos for the next couple of weeks and also give the mail something to print. Then it will be back to normal and big council tax rises to cover the losses made on the event.
P.S. I bet the camera happy folk were over the moon using the films up on the "for let" signs on the marina!!

The council dot pay for owt to do with it, it is funded by the 'Tall Ships' and of course it cost more then the event over in toxic Teeside, the Tall Ships is a massive event, the one in St.Ockton isn't

I wonder if people in Valencia banged their collectives as much

Spent 6 hours there last night and mostly great, OCS were good and apart from the underage pond life who just wanted to get wasted and arrested by antagonising anyone over 40, it felt pretty safe.

On the underage bit, what self respecting parent would allow their 12 year olds stay out until midnight for fecks sake stpid !

Also saw a girl who had a special copper holding her arm, an irate baldy type ran up and punched her, he ran off and 2 more specials got hold of the girl sctatchinghead , forgive me for thinking the perp should be the one to be apprehended?

£10 to park a car - in a supervised and floodlit car park until 1am and this included return transport to the Marina for myself and three passengers. Absolute bargain!

I went to the tall ships in Newcastle circa 2005 and it was pretty dull, nowhere near this amount of entertainment and given that I don't give a rats arse about ships (regardless of their height) I was bored stiff.

It’s a massive event that has already brought half a million people to the Town, the organisation is excellent and disruption minimal. Traffic around town has actually probably been quieter than normal with lots of people choosing to walk to the site. I don’t get why anyone would be negative towards it, it’s been a huge success. I went down last night and am tonight. My only complaint is the day long shocking hangover I’ve had- only one solution I think a pint of Amstel!

The event has been ok apart from the divvy stewards and coppers having attitude problems. The 500,000 figure must of been in the mail though because it seems exaggerated. I might have a wander down tonight though... bbolt

Dear Dear confised
That is what's called a 'working port' and as you live in a town of beige clad retired catalogue models with a sexual identity crisis, such a sight will come as a shock to your rather effete character.

Please note that the pile of scrap in question is not really scrap but a piece of modern art depicting the future of Darlington F.C ... I think the sculptor depicted the bleak prospects for your fading outfit quite well, dontcha think?
