Right.......What is the problem with him? is he the problem? or has Tubby got a problem with him? sctatchinghead

In my opinion he is the only real centre forward we have at the club who IS capable of scoring 20 + Goals for us.

What I hear about Adam:

He is fat,
He is pi$$ed,
He is in the bookies at Throston pi$$ed,
He told Turner to welcome to the board pi$$ed,
He is pi$$ed in the manor club
He is pi$$ed in midnights
He is pi$$ed down the marina

Is it because he is an alcoholic then?..........As long as he is not turning up for a game on a Saturday pi$$ed what is the problem?.

Billy Horner never had a problem with Bob Newton being pi$$ed.

And I don't have a problem with Adam being pi$$ed....... within reason.

If it's none of the above.......... and he is another signing who Turner now decides he no longer wants or likes........let him go out on loan then........ and get match fit / pissed.

Why are we searching for a striker when fooking have one?. rage

I think it's fooking Turner who is pi$$ed. banghead

If Adam Boyd wants to go out on a Saturday and get so drunk he can't see then I have no problem with that providing we dont have a game on the Tuesday, on the times I've seen him out he didn't look anymore pissed than the next person and there's no doubt in my mind that the rumours about his drinking have been massively exaggerated.

Neale Cooper is the only manager to get Adam Boyd playing consistenly and given that Turner is a poor man manager at the best of times I'd be surprised if we get much out of him this season. The way its looking he's hardly going to feature anyway.

A real waste IMO.

Maybe not but tragically there were others who did.

asfor the comparisons with bob newton.... jeez. different era, different game. newton wouldnt even get in pools reserves if he was around now.
....Sorry but I dont agree with you there Chip. Bob Newton in his first spell was absolutely brilliant for us, the best shielder of a ball I've ever seen in a Pools strip, strong as a bull, and a good finisher. In his second spell he was at least 2 stone overweight.

I saw him home and away in the late seventies/early eighties and he struck fear in opposing defences, they just could'nt get the ball off him.....and I'm not exaggerating there.

But if Bob Newton was playing now wouldn't he be just as fit as other players....due to better training, equipment, techniques etc???? sctatchinghead
yr perfectly entitled to disagree.

i think the game at this level is so much quicker and players are so much fitter now he wouldnt stand a chance.

i agree with cormac mcarthy that the lives we have lived are best viewed from a distance. newton has gained something of a cult status because he scored a few goals in a bad side. but theres a reason he spent his entire career in the lower leagues and a player like keith houchen didnt.[/quote

Bob played in the same side as Houchen, and if you ask Houchen how good he was he'll tell you. The only reason Bob never played at a higher level was not for his lack of skill, but undoubtably his well documented vices.

It was common practice in those days though for Players to get legless....(I'm not on about driving though)!!!! confised

It's pretty rare these days for a Professional Footballer to get legless....no matter what day of the week it is!!!! confised

It's a completely different era and what was common practice in those days is now frowned upon!!!! :coool:

Mutters, Newton was convicted for drink driving again only a couple of years ago. You would have thought the death of Dave Wiggett would have taught him a lesson, sadly it seems not.

Edit: heres the link

How this man remains a hero to some is beyond my comprehension.

I was out in pool on friday night, and i seen a professional football player, not a pools player, giving it large in showrooms, champagne on ice, flash watch, friends hanging off him, birds all over him, living the 'playboy' lifestyle.

But i know he's a cracking lad, he's a top player whose played at the highest level and probs will again, there is no harm in the odd excess on a weekend, as long as it stays that way.

It's the ones that take it to far that suffer.

If your lucky you have 10-15 years to make as much money out of the game as you can, some just piss it up the wall too soon and dont stop and think, "wait a sec, in 10 years time i'll be retired, i can just go get lashed then".

The games lost a lot of good players to beer.

oh come on muttley, league one players still go out and get mortal these days. you yourself were berating a certain pools reserve team player for doing just that not so long ago.

adam boyd is another classic case of a player who really should have done a lot better out of football than he has done.

some people just have the midset that they want to lead the party lifestyle and never really grow up. and in a way you really cant blame some of these relatively rich young men being more interested in booze, parties, and lasses, than training on a wet monday morning.

Like I said....It's 'pretty' rare these days for Professionals to get legless and is now frowned upon....back in Yesteryear....'every' player did and no-one batted an eyelid!!!! confised

And no one can remember him ever making a shot that didn't test the goalie.

Not defending him, but regarding the crash, it seems to me from memory that Newton just happened to be the driver that night, in a who's-the-least-plastered kind of way.
The point behind that is he wasn't the only drinker at the club. In fact Billy Horner used to go to Twins regularly with a few players, and it wasn't lemonade they were drinking. (Not passing judgement; just stating what I saw with my own eyes.)
