Same as Scotland in 74. Except Scotland don't have New Zealands rich footballing heritage.

Yep.

Boring but effective football.

Technically good stuff but not as great to get excited about as a lot of people have done.

Concurring with Mr Ripper.
A lesson in possession football but overdone for me.

dunno how many they got, but it was 3 less than whoever the previous lowest was.

Spain scord 8 and that would be 3 less than England in 1966 then

when both teams play 4-5-1 it does tend to get very compact in the middle which last nights did

  Very true

4-5-1 is a great way to combat the old and dated 4-4-2, as germany did against the bargies and us, just win the midfield battle every single time.

My point was about this particular world cup which I explained with the words 'this entire world cup'. I was simply highlighting that everyone else including both finalists lost at least one game. New Zealand were therefore the only unbeaten team at THIS world cup.

Why do people keep telling about previous world cups?

Were they?

That is interesting Mr M.

Shall we retitle this thread to make it more relevant?

I won £10 of my mate who was trying to say that Ronaldo had got the most goals at one world cup, he wouldnt listen that he has got the most overall and he said i am sure that he has the most at one as well as he heard it on itv.

I informed him that I knew for definate that he didnt as the most he ever got was 8 in one world cup and of the top of my head Muller got around 10 in one, but I knew that a french fella got loads in early years.

We googled it and it was Just Fontaine, £10 to me.

Moral of the story dont listen to ITV.

yeah I did word it like that and it was his fault for taking the bet as he was going on something he heard on the tv rather than something he actually knew was fact.

I hope you were careful how you worded that bet, compo. Ronaldo did score the most goals at one World Cup: the 2002 World Cup

But for goals at any single World Cup I reckon Ronaldo is joint fifth behind Fontaine, Kocsis, Muller and Eusebio, and the joint highest Brazilian alongside Leonidas.

What about Rayne Wooney?

Gary Lineker got 10 goals in the two W/C he played, not to shabby, however, some were pennas and he was English so it probably doesn't count

My cousin is from New Zealand.

Three draws for their national team in the group stage was a historic achievement for them.

One MP in NZ thought it was such an achievement that he tried to introduce a motion in parliament for a national holiday to be held to commemorate the achievements in SA.

Three draws for England in the group stages would have been a disgrace!!
