Manchester City’s new £24m signing from Barcelona, Yaya Toure, is being paid £220,000-a-week. His initial wage of £185,000 will rise to £221,000 when the 50% tax rate comes in next April. He is due to receive £4.1m a year after tax, an image rights payment of £1.65m a year and a bonus of £823,000 each time City qualify for the Champions League and £412,000 if they win the competition. He will also get bonuses if the club win the Premier League and the FA Cup. The deal including his transfer fee, wages and bonuses, totals £79.6m

Seriously the only ones to blame for these crazy wages are the clubs themselves. If i was a pro i would get whatever someone was willing to pay. If the clubs are stupid enough to offer these kind of wages then hopefully it will mean more clubs in the premier$hit go to the wall.

surely it's the 'chicken and egg' scenario, the clubs pay the wages cos they need success to keep the fans happy and to keep the fans happy the clubs pay stupid wages....... it has got way out of control but while the fans are happy for 'average' players to pick up stupid wages, it will only get worse bangheahaas

The real underlying reasons of my current dissatisfaction with football are precisely because of stuff like this.
I really despair if this is how important some people think football now is.
It has traditionally been a great social gathering and focal point for all members of any given community to cheer on their local team, no matter how big or small - but this is just disgusting. It just makes me even more determined to never pay for Sky tv/sky sports etc ever again.

Those figures are absolutely disgusting.
It should have been capped long ago, too late now. There's no reason why it shouldn't have been capped at £20,000 a week. Ffs that's a million a year, how much do they need?

I've been feeling exactly like this recently.

How much have the young soldiers been earning who are serving in Afghanistan and Iraq?
Quite a lot of who are no longer with us, RIP.
I dare say they were on barely a tenth of that per year what they've offered him a week.
And they risk their lives every day, do footballers.

This is what annoys me. Doctors/surgeons who save lives and soldiers risking their lives earning a fraction of these footballers. I know that's not how the system works and entertainers -not just footballers earn shed loads of money because of the money coming in to their industry. If the government want to claw back some of the huge deficit they say Labour has left them, they should put entertainers in a higher tax bracket.

i dont blame toure, and i dont blame the players, you only live once and if someone offers you shit loads of money your not gunna exactly so no are you? I know i wouldnt.

But it's just went crazy and spiralled out of control, man city throwing all this money about, chelsea doing the same, barca etc etc

it's just so incredibly boring.

I can't wait for the bloke who owns Man City to get bored one day and decide to pack it all in and put his money somewhere else instead
