Yes it's very viable and not nearly as difficult as you might imagine.

A famous man once said, '...nothing to fear but fear itself..'

No commitments no kids and no mid life crisis.
The £500 quid a month will come from renting out my house so its a no lose situation , my thoughts are to spend 5 or 6 years abroard somewhere , then if i come come back i will have a house to live in and i can take out early pention . It just sounds to easy their must be a stumbling block that i can not see.

Go for it.

It can be a bit of a culture shock at first but you soon settle into it. Where I am is a bit different to where Spender is tho'. Get as much advice of him as you can, as there really is no substitute for first hand experience. (I'm presuming he won't mind of course!)

Well at £500 a month, Europe's out as is the US, Australia and most of South America. That leaves you with Asia and Africa which are both within your budget. 500 smackers buys you a very good living in the far east; China and the Phillipines especially.

As the man said, Spender's your man for advice, he lives in Chinkyland and has done for about three or four years now. other than a penchant for shit coloured chairs he seems to have survived ok. Mind you, it was less of a transition for him, he's eaten rice before and he moved there from Worksop so he's used to basic facilities.

Why should he be having a mid-life crisis? confised
Sounds like a plan to me. Go for it, mick. It doesn't have to be permanent, if it doesn't work out.

This is one area where there'll never be equality, and I'm envious. A bloke can move more or less anywhere on his own, and make instant friends down at the local (or oriental equivalent). A single woman doing the same thing wouldn't fit in at all, hence defeating the object in going.

If you try it and it doesn't work, you come home and you're back exactly where you were. On the other hand if might well work and make you happy.

One important point is to be very careful who you rent your house to. This is your sole source of income so it would be catastrophic of they didn't pay.
