I can well imagine that he is long gone from that area and moved futher North as his sighting suggest he is heading that way.

Just because his DNA was present on the camping equipment etc isnt an indication he was at the scene it was found. Its mearly says he has been in contact with those items in the past. (e.g I could smoke a cigarette in Huntingdon and a mate could take this in a bag along with my bed clothes and sleeping bag to another area of the country and dump it there)
