Looking for a new pc / laptop following my holidays so having a mooch around now. I was wanting to know the people on here advise on what to go for and best suits me as dont want to get ripped off for something thats 1) i dont need 2) wont be enough for my needs.

I just want a pc / laptop for going on internet and writing work reports. However I have lots of music and will want to download films etc, oh and play the new champ manager game.

My mate has a great desk top but has about 2 external hard drives one for fillums which he has load of and then just burns them onto dvd and one for music (like me has lots of music).

Is this the way to go and any advise will be great recieved. Was looking to spend about £500 but if I can get all I want for cheaper then happy days.

Oh and I dont need a monitor if a desk top as have a 42" LG tv that I would use

As a side issue, why bother burning them to a dvd? I've got a usb media player which cost about £30. Basically it plugs into the composite input of the tv and plays directly from a hard drive.

Cheers I will do that then, he just burns them now and again to free up space and also so he can watch them on his dvd player in his front room.

As all my stuff will be in the bedroom I will do what you advise

This is the sort of thing, its the new version of the one I've got. When you're looking just be careful that they are compatible with NTFS. Fat32 won't handle a big hard drive.

It's essentiallly the same thing. You don't have to stop at a memory stick, you could have a 1tb external drive plugged in like I have and scroll through all your fillums.
