the Germans are born with a ruthless mentality it seems. 11th World Cup semi final now for them - compare that to England's paltry 2.

the germans have always been about the team and not the individuals

klose has not got anything like the superstar status rooney has but he produces the goods time and time again

england will not win anything until the 'stars' can be taken out of their comfort zone

unfortunately I dont think the talent is there to challenge them

No.

England will not win anything until some of the "stars" are taken out of the team and the manager picks eleven players to make a team instead of picking eleven players just cos they play for teams in the Champions League and then trying to find a position for them all.

The first thing Sven & Fabio both said was that they would pay no respect to reputations.
On both counts, what a crock.
Both have played our so called best players out of position. For example, Gerrard, Barry and and J. Cole.
Both have played poor formations that suited no-one, exept egotistical midfielders.
And for one of the best tactitions in the world, we were easily undone. Not by Germany, but by USA.
Hodgson should have been approached at the very least. Its no good hanging onto so called Golden Generation. What have they achieved other than mediocrity. Surely its time to start blooding some youngsters like
A. Johnson, Rodwell and Wiltshere. They can't do much worse, give them 2 years to prepare for next Euros. The Germans greatest strength was unity. No amazing individuals, but what a team. Hard work, organisation and unity. Surely not too much to ask from people that earn in a week what most people would be happy happy to earn in 4 years...

problem is we dont have 2 years to prepare for the next Euro's because the qualifying games start in september.
I agree with giving johnson a try but dont think sticking a load of young uns in there is the answer.
When Steve Mclaren went for youth and ditched beckam in favour of lennon we ended up not qualifing for the last one.

And therein lies the short termism that prevails and hinders.

Stick the best young players in the team now with one or two of the better more experienced players and build for the next World Cup. If in the meantime we qualify for the Euros then bonus, but let's plan a bit more long term for once.

the only way to get england to do anything significant at international level is to do something on a similar level to what they did for cricket with central contracts etc but thats never gonna happen in footy.
