There's quite a few people at work who don't know who Vera Lynn is....I thought they were winding me up but they aren't. One of them is a half Darlow/half Leeds fan.

What is the world coming to?!?!

Well?

Are they less than 50 years old?

I am 27 and cant believe the lack of knowledge and common sence around people in the 19-25 bracket that I work with at the pub. Anything from geography, politics, history and music most of them dont know their arse from their elbow.

I know I am older and have picked up stuff in the course of my life but when i was 18-25, I knew the following that some of the people in the pub dont and have laughed my head of in the pub while working with them:

1) what north on a compass means, one girl thinks its the direction you are facing and after explaining the fact that is a constant she still doesnt get it, the killer line was "you know Huntingdon is north of London, well what happens if I am not facing london but the other way is it now south?"

2) Netherlands is the correct term for holland and Amsterdam is its Capital City, one thought that Holland was in Amsterdam.

3) Have a basic grasp of words, some didnt know what devoid, plethora or myriad ment

4) Know that Kiwi is the slang term for the people of New Zeland and has nothing to do with the Fruit.

5) When the World Wars and Falklands happened, and who they involved, one lad thought the Falklands was in Africa!

Honestly its a laugh a minute in that place but not in a good way it just makes you wonder how people like this get through life. I used to and still do read a lot and this comes from my dad making me do so when I was a kid. When I have children I am going to do the same thing, my kid would not them come out with stupid remarks like "oh that lord of the rings was a great film, didnt realise it was a book, did they bring that out after the films?"
