How that then? you going to magic them? It take six years minimum to train someone up to the level required. I fooking hate uninformed sound bites.

If it takes 6 years, you have to start somewhere, right? What do you expect him to do/say? "Sorry lads, it takes 6 years so it's not even worth starting to train more of you"

Even then, maybe there are some EOD operators that are fully trained that aren't in Afghanistan at the moment.

I'm not fussed for any of the politicians and I don't have any experience of the army, but come on, why jump on someone when it sounds like they're trying to do the right thing?

No he done what most politicos and as Mr I stated .. produced a uniformed sound bite.. or an intention without a plan its worth the root sum of fook all

As far as I can see he's got no substance at all and as many have correctly pointed out he's Blairs natural successor..

With him in charge we're heading for the buffers big style but you only get the government you vote for...

Already mealy mouthed liberals are dropping on their election promises (not supporting increases in tution fees for example and I bet they're not as keen to "cut" the totally unnecessary waste of money that is the trident replacement programme either ).


The only good thing to come out this coalition will be the assimilation of them into the tories..

I'm just guessing but I'd like to point out that unless he can pull out these highly trained operatives from some magic hat somewhere its quite an informed one...

These guys are an elite band willing to put their lives on the line for the cause if he does know where all these extra TRAINED and BRAVE men are hiding then he should tell us (Or more importantly the MoD)

If he is expressing an aspiration he should say so.

As many have pointed out it takes SIX years to train these bomb disposal guys.. I hope we're long away from that hell hole by then.

The inference was that he's going to do it quickly otherwise whats the point. If he had have stood up and said in six years he would have been laughed at seeing as he is already talking about withdrawal.

As for ATO's that aren't already there, no there aren't any that aren't either on rotation or in theatre. And theres no such thing as a not fully trained EOD operator. You either are one or you're not. There are some experienced RLC Ammo Technicians, (kind of assistants) that aren't trained who could be upgraded but they've still got a few years learning to do.
