That didn't happen and he later brought in Joe Skarz to play left back and left Humphreys out. During the summer he thought he had managed to sign Michael Rose only for the player to make a late decision to stay where he was. He has then at various times tried Hartley, Auston and Haslam at left back with no real success. It's been clear for a long time that he thinks left back is an area that needs addressing, and I'm sure it's one of his priorities for the summer.

Or maybe he just read it on the Bunker

Come on John, you know fine well that Turner is too incompetent to realise we have needed a left back for years.

Besides, this is the bunker, aka The Ridiculously Over-the-Top Anti-Turner Brigade, and we can not allow any sensible posts about the fat one

It looks like he's looking at Sunderland's Michael Liddle.

Not another Liddle!! rolfl

It was confusing enough with Clarke and Clark, Sweeney and McSweeney...and now, we could have two Liddles!!

The last line's interestingly phrased, though, isn't it?
ie:
"Now Ben's gone, we'll be looking to strengthen in an area at the back, I'm sure."

If CT were himself going to be in charge of signing players, you would expect him to say something like, 'I'm looking to strengthen the defence.'
Of course, when performing textual analysis, one does have to remember the ambiguities of everyday speech. sctatchinghead

It took him long enough to realise Humpheys wasn't a left back.

In the Ask Chris section on the official site I asked why he made so many changes to the back 4 when Hartley was sent off against Oldham in January, when he could have played Humphreys there.

His reply was Humphreys is not a left back and Sweeney has done well at right back so he made something like 3-4 changes to accommodate one.

But at least in Jan 2010 he realised Humphreys wasn't a left back, how many times previously had he selected him in that position.
