Have to say misterb has brought up a very good point on another thread

"our form since odonovan arrived was top half form, so basically we are only one good striker away from being a top half team. If turner can bring in a good striker and strengthen the defence and midfield then I would say top half would be the minimum I would expect."

I didnt look at it this way and been annoyed with Turner but it shows you that as mister b said we are potentially two / three players from having a very good first XI for next year.

i think if you based our form with O'donovan in the team over a full season it would have worked out around the 68 point mark (roughly).

so all this bullshit about us being doomed and being dead certs for relegation etc etc is, in my opinion, way off the mark, at least until we see what players Turner brings in.

Trouble is that we don't have O Donovan, he will go somewhere bigger. You could look at it the other (and more realistic way) without him we would have been relegated a month ago.

O'donovans goals gave us a total of 5 points while he was here.

There is no guarantee that if he wasn't here, the person in his place wouldn't have contributed.

Just as theres no guarantee that if he had played all season, he would have scored at the same rate.

its also worth pointing out that our form in general improved when Brown came back from injury.

Is it not correct that minus 5 points would have seen us relegated ?

yes, but that would have seen us play a quarter of the season with 10 men. Whats your point?

My point is that he did score those goals and in the relatively few games we played he kept us up. The ifs and maybes of whoever played might or might not have scored is conjecture, we weren't scoring which is why we borrowed him so theres no reason to think that whoever had played would have scored. There is a very strong chance that without him we would be down.

Roy scored three against southend take them off is minus two. he scored a pen against colchester assuming we scored that we would only of been 2 points worse off so if we hadnt of had the 3 points off we would of stayed up anyway

its all hypothetical anyway as without him we would of beaten southend anyway and the game against colchester wouldnt of panned out the same way.

Hope we sign him like

This thread started off so bright and promising with that title but by the 5th line had turned into the "Most stupid post in a long time"..

O'Donovan signed as soon as we had finished our tough run of fixtures. We are far more than being one player away from being a top half team, we certainly wouldn't stand much of a chance if we let in 67 goals again.

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII'm only joking lads... I totally agree, 3 or 4 new signings and we'll be a force to be reckoned with in this league. I can honestly seeing us smash Norwich's record points total with the guile and technical ability the likes of Colin Larkin, Arman Bjornsson and Antony Sweeney regluarly show us. Couple with a left back and we'll be laughing.
