Now all the celebrations have calmed down and hopefully the rose coloured glasses have been put away, can we now get back to reality? A mediocre performance against an uninterested Brentford does not make Pools worldbeaters. Yes league one status has been preserved but that was as much due to Gillingham's ineptitude as it was to Pools. They went to Brentford knowing that a win would keep them up, they failed in that and no amount of badge kissing changes that. Over the last month we have achieved some important results but in each case the opposition were either dire or had nothing to play for.

Most of the season the defence has been appaling, the midfield pathetic and the attack lightweight. Had we not borrowed a good player from Sunderland we would have been down already - with or without the points deduction. This season has been abysmal and the manager and most of the players have performed extremely poorly. Nothing has changed and we still need a manager worthy of the name and a good clear out of the players who are not up to the job be that in terms of ability or attitude, particularly the old guard.

I think we need relatively minor tweaks.

Get rid of some of the old fellas, Humphreys and Collins for a start. Sign a proper left back, let Hartley stay as a centre half. See how Gamble and Behan perform after they've had a summer off as this year they played right through from about April 2009. See how the foreign lads do now they've had time to settle in. Tell Monkhouse that he either plays well more often or just fks off. Get Boydy to either shape up or be replaced, we all know he has the talent.

I can see Turner getting til about Christmas to see if the team he's put together over the last 12 months or so can cut it or whether or not we need a new manager.

Bloomin heck mate don't say that
I'm enjoying the feeling that this season is over and next season will see us start again with a new manager.

He's had the best part of 2 years to sort us out.

Don't often comment on football matters with being abroad and relying on Poolsworld and match reports on here to see how things are. Have to agree with Mr I though.

I haven't been a Turner out poster and I think far too many managers get sacked too soon but surely he's had enough time and backing to have done better than depending on others losing their last match. We aren't one of the biggest clubs in the division but we have stability of ownership and financial backing that lots would envy. We should be able to finish mid-table comfortably given the number of clubs struggling for money. I wouldn't have any problem with him going back upstairs if IOR feel they need somebody in that role but we need somebody picking the team who plays players in their own positions and can motivate the likes of Boyd and Monkhouse to be more consistent. A well organised defence would be good too.

Start looking for a new manager/first team coach now and then move Turner on once we've got one, seems sensible to me. Having said that I think Mr Ripper might be right about the club giving him until Christmas depending on results. Fingers crossed if they do because it is hard to see it working.

Incidentally, all this 'on our poor attendances' stuff. The £1m a year that IOR chuck in equates to about an extra 3000 on the attendances so if you want to measure our performance against like for like clubs, look for those who are getting 6500 - 7000 a game.

Great point Mri about gates to money.
The loyalty shown to CT from Hodcroft almost took us down and if CT is left in charge the gates next season will be at an all time low.

Well I know at least two people who will not be getting a season ticket for the first time in about 20 years if Turner is in charge, My Dad and his mate.

surely that goes for every team that make a loss though?

The only difference being that the chairmen of other clubs will expect that money back if/when they sell up, whereas IOR won't.

No its not the same, other clubs who do it go into administration. IOR swallow the loss in the group accounts. Pools do not have regular winding up orders falling on the doormat.

An all time low is sub 1000. That ain't going to happen. This season has been awful and I believe that the high 2000's is as low as they'll go.

"we have been unrelentingly shyte away from home since the autumn. we cannot match the better sides home or away, and have no confidence against the " bigger " clubs".

Would that be anything to do with the fact that the DOS keeps telling the public (including the players) that the likes of Leeds, Southampton ,Norwich etc etc have much bigger income, support & so on. Sounds like a self fulfilling prophecy to me!
