Does anyone know how long he's been the pa announcer sctatchinghead

To the best of my knowledge, he's been there ever since I first started going to games in the early 80's, part of the furniture if you like. Will certainly be strange to hear someone else's voice next season.

Thanks and all the best John.

Good to see he got a decent round of applause at half time.

For the service he has given the club they should name a stand after him.

Yes I was, considering stands generally get named after players or managers but when you think about it John Orley has probably spent more time at Pools than any other official (paid or unpaid) in the club's 102 year history.

"John Orley has probably spent more time at Pools than any other official (paid or unpaid) in the club's 102 year history".

John Orley has done a brilliant job but so have others over the years. My grandad, Frank Perryman, was secretary from the late 1930s through to the early '70s. I don't think he got paid, in fact I'm pretty sure he lent the club money on a few occassions and never got it back!

Quite a lot of "old timers" did long service at Pools but that sort of thing has gone missing from the modern game- John Orley is a throwback and I mean that as an enormous compliment!

There is a death notice in the Hartlepool Mail today for a John Thomas Orley, who died on Tuesday! Is it our recently retired announcer? Husband of Primrose. It says 'after a long illness, fought with dignity and courage, aged 75 years.'

I knew he is in his 70's, but wasn't sure exactly how old. it's not a common surname is it!
