Stadium of light produced an excellent atmosphere, I really like that ground.

I'm also gonna mention my worst, Hillsborough......what an absolute dive.

whatever your situation we would love to hear from you.

anyway, todays hot topic is your favourite ground other than the vic. this could be a non league ground ( eppleton would be one of mine, the wembley of the northern league ) a ground thats gone ( feethams and highbury spring to mind for vastly different reasons ) it could be foreign ground ( for those who fancy posting a thinly veiled im well travelled comment, be it montrose or milan ) it could be a new ground ( huddersfield probably my favourite of the newbies ) it could just be one you like going to for the drink ( torquay or blackpool ) or one where you have happy memories ( exeter, reynolds arena ) so basically its over to you.

Would I be correct in thinking you will disagree with every opinion that is given??

Anyway, its one of two which I can quite decide. Is it Kidderminster's Aggborough? When James Sharp scored the scrappiest headed goal in the world in the last minute to get into the play-offs. Or, last game of the season at Boothferry Park when we beat Hull 3-1 and Gary Strodder got sent off either just before or just after half time... (I think it was the 46th minute).. good quality game and a cracking atmosphere.

That is all.

I thought I would pick up the theme of a hot topic and post for the first time, but before I do a little background.

I do remember white dog turds (I even remember when Maltesers came in a white bag). My musical development stopped at Stiff Little Fingers and love humour of the "Those curtains could do with a wash" type. I've been looking for a suitable message board but never found one...

My favourite ground (apart from the Vic) is The Archibald Stadium in Durham. The chips are excellent but it's the sound system that makes it. The PA system must have been secured from an old railway station as it is almost impossible to make out what is being said. When Durham score they play (or used to a few seasons ago) the opening bars of the Lone Ranger theme (William Tell overture)...anyway as it reaches its crescendo and ends it is always greeted by a wall of utter silnece from the 100 or so punters. This silence is invariable broken by some awld gadgie farting or clearing his bronchiatic throat..class.

Anyway - fark hoff

My favourite ground is Edgeley Park - Stockport.

Lots of pubs. Close to the train station. Best "come back" game I've watched. Plane spotting. Night out in Manchester. Good pies.

Superb - I'll hopefully miss going there next year

It was 3-0 and Strodder was sent off in the first half (approx 30 mins but Madjohn can confirm that)

But back to the post I'm going for London Road, Peterborough for no other reason than in about 10 visits there I've never seen us lose.

Have to agree love going there however the food is rubbish, the pub on the corner near the ground makes up for it though.

Was going to mention Rochdale as the last time I went there had a great time, however was drunk after the first pub and wasnt looking very good how I got into the ground is beyond me.

Elland Road, predictably.

Can't honestly think of a away ground I have liked.

Belle Vue or The Shay.

Cracking pies, pubs within walking distance, seen us win and lose at both but generally a very enjoyable day out without having to spend all day getting there.

With a combination of all the southern teams in our league and the proliferation of soul less new grounds I miss days out like these.

Suppose Elland Road wouldn't be a popular choice with you lot losing 4 out of 4 visits whilst conceding 12 goals in the process ove the last 3 years

Not really.

I've enjoyed loads of away days where we've lost. We lose away from home very often.

The reason that Elland Road isn't a popular choice of venue is most likely due to the high percentage of pricks to be found in the home stands and around the ground before and after the match.

Hope that helps.

Saw England at Stadium of Light and there was a great atmosphere.

Kidderminster had great shepherd's pie but I guess that's a different topic.

Annfield for the singing.

Old trafford was good especially when the scoreboard read Man U 1 Pools 2

Bolton's new ground is good to.

But it has to be the Darlo Echo White Elephent Arena. Best grounnd in the Conference!

Predictably, it's a Leeds fan that completely misses the point. A football fan wouldn't make that mistake.

Havn't missed the point I know the real reason Elland Road is disliked amongst you, but it's been covered a few times and sure will again tomorrow.

If you really want to know............I only went the once and vowed never to return, so only witnessed one defeat.
Away defeats are no stranger to me as I go to quite a lot of away games.
What I don't like is abuse by home fans in and around the ground, bullying stewards or arseholes masquerading as stewards and being ripped off by obnoxious pricks like Bates.
Funnily enough after nigh on fifty years of travelling all over the country watching football Elland Road is the only ground I won't return to.
Results have nothing to do with it. Worst away day I've ever had..............by a country mile. Sorry but that's how I see it.

Really Liked going to Mansfield as well some good pubs and was a laugh throwing the sweets back at the mascot.

Also nearly wandered into a Ukranian social club near the ground.

One of the best ever days out i can remember was Ipswich in the cup ,fantastic day brilliant fans shame about the result . Even Sir bobby Robson congradulated our fans after the game.
Two other grounds i liked where Southport , think there was only about 900 at the game and half of them had been thrown out the ground only to climb back in through the crumbling stands.
York city was always a favorite of mine for loads of reasons.

Yep, the likes of Mansfield, Bradford, Rochdale, York are all good away days that we miss nowadays. Already looking forward to Rochdale next season if we can stay up and it's not put on as a night match.

Maccelsfield, were the old guy from the pub on the corner used to watch the match from his fire exit. Also one of the funniest things I saw at a match a big fat bloke got taken out when our defender, think mickey barron, smashed the ball out and hit him directally in the face.

Always enjoyed York away. Quick to get to and a good pub on the green on the way in to york for a drink.

Darlow at the white elephant stadium will always go down as my favourite away day memory 3-0 win "We are Unbeatable" and limo there and back. Perfect clappp clappp

After the abolition of the maximum wage Johnny Haynes was the first player to get £100 ( one hundred) a week.
At the time a Yuill's three bedroom semi was around £2800.
Times have changed slightly.

28 weeks wages would buy a house. Thats certainly changed. Average wages in the UK is roughly £450 so thats about 500 weeks. Mind you an average premier league player could buy one a fortnight.

Mr Haynes at the time was reputed to be the top paid footballer. His gross earnings would be £2800 over 28 weeks.
The top paid premiership player at a guess would gross over £3 million in the same period.
Ridiculous when put in that sort of perspective.

I bought a Yuills Grange three bedroom semi in 1967 for £2822..........my wages were £19-1s-6d a week (£19-071/2p ).
A garage built with the house was an extra £150. Full central heating was also £150.

One of my best memories, even with a 4-1 defeat against what was my 'second' team (I went to a lot of their home games when I was stationed in East Anglia for a couple of years), also can't believe how long ago it was. My penultimate last match as a single man, met PC the following month!!

Firstly, great thread. Well done to Mr Fireball. I can't believe so many people think you're such a prick at times. :coool:

I grew up with a lad who was a Fulham season ticket holder from a very early age and used to go and watch them a fair bit. The Hammersmith End which was the big end opposite the away end was fooking massive and was always full of your typical working mans football fan. He has always sworn he'd rather be back in the 4th tier than in the Premier League but given that this season he's been travelling to the likes of Wolfsbury, Roma, Basel and Juventus I think he is slowly changing his mind. The new all-seater ground is dire though, just like many of the current modern grounds.

I miss the trips to Scarborough personally, especially after they built that cracking stand behind the goal - views excellent and superb atmosphere, with the away end never less then full when Pools played there
Then the drinking etc - whether a few pints in Whitby en route there and back, or in Scarborough itself

I've always liked Brentfords ground with, famously, a pub at each corner. Back there again next week then a Saturday night and Sunday on the lash in that London.
The Church on Sunday if anyone's still around. It's on the Whitechapel Road these days.

york was the first away game i ever went too, think circa 1999.

i also like rochdale, mansfield, halifax, reynolds area, feethams.

I'm a bit like ripper, prefer the closer northern gounds, good atmosphere, good turn outs, friendly familiar faces.

Carrow Rd is a good ground, by train station, good pubs, despite Delias pies will miss it next year. Will be replaced with trip to London Rd which I like.

Should be a cracking day out next season, with Grand Central you'll be able to do with with one change at York and I reckon it'll be around £25- £30 return. Not many places you can do from Hartlepool with just one change on the train unless you want to pay an arm and a leg to get to London town.

any grounds with a covered away terrace but Posh is probably best for all round day out quality. I always liked Aldershot so would love them to come up in the playoffs (unless we go down of course :uhoh: )

Visited Borough Park Workington to see Pools prior to them going out of the league, always had a soft spot for them as they would only average about 1200 but quality fan's nonetheless. Used to love the drive down the A19 to Belle Vue Doncaster most seasons as it always seemed a sunny day/evening when we played them. Like Sincil Bank also.

As most of my games are away I can say that my list includes.

Port Vale in a blizzard 48 Poolies all keeping warm at the back of the stand at half time. I do remember Ronnie ringing his wife who told him not to expect to get home that night. Who cares we won 5-2. Great away stand.

Coldest game was -7 at chesterfield on a Tuesday night. A draw I believe?

Until recently Wycome held great memories. Nice ground and good food.

One of the fondest memorys was Notts County on Boxing day. Great Party atmoshere and nice ground.

Can we also have topics on the:-
Hardest ground to find in a car---Chester/Cheltenham
Total S**T hole grounds-- Cheltenham(pre 2008) Shewsbury(Gay Meadow)
Great for plane spotting- Brentford/Stockport
Longest wait to get out of a car park---Bournmouth
Bad Losers/ threat of violence--Tranmere/ Millwall/Leeds/Manfield
Worst Seats---Temp stand at Blackpool/Chesterfield
Worst Pitch--Torquay 2007-2008 it was like football on ice/mud
Best Away support for pools--it has to be Cardiff
Most surreal moment----Southern Poolies chanting at Bournmouth in a cockney accent " We cannot hear you, you southern b**tards!"
Most memorable moment-- a mid forties bloke, tatoos, not much hair, on his knees praying aloud at Tranmere in the dieing minutes of the playoffs.

Forgot Oxford. Pub right next to the ground, but I do remember its was £18 to get in back then! Happy memories of Super Gordons strike though.

Always enjoyed going to Blyth Spartans a few years ago when our young-un was with them, great food and a really good club house and set up !
seen quite a few ex pools players playing for various teams, Denny Ingram, Ian Clarke to name a couple, I remember once Darren knowles was playing for the opposition and our young-un was made up cos it was his favourite pools player, when he was a little kid !! (any way our young-un was in total awe and shite  )
The crowd had some good craic as well, i remember they used to sing a great version of the classic 'We hate nottingham forest' (sung to the tune of Land of hope and glory) it was something like

'We hate ilk es ton Town
We hate gateshead too 'AND WHITBY'
We hate grays athletic
but spartans we love you !

clappp used always tickle me that !!
