Flinders yes but why do you want to keep a player who is not up to the job and has only performed against the very weakest teams in the division?

Clear out the old guard completely for me.

Bjornsson, Freddy and Larkin all came last season so they won't be up for contract renewal. Larkin has already stated himself that Turner has signed him up until 2026.

I think Tymon could well be on his way given that he has never been given a kick. Mackay, Power, Jones and Clark would be my bet on who is going to join them.

I agree with your sentiment that we need a big clearout but I'd definitely add McSweeney, Rowell and Hartley to those who we should keep.

All 3 have suffered from bad management and given a good run in the side in their correct roles I think we could have 3 very good players.

I agree with keeping Rowell, McSweeney and Hartley are a bit hit and miss for me.

Hartley hasn't had a good season at left back but he isn't a left back so I think it'd be unfair/stupid to get rid of a local lad who has undoubted promise just because he hasn't succeeded in a role he is fairly unfamiliar with.

McSweeney has played right-back, right wing, central midfield and upfront and chopped in and out of the team. It's no wonder he has been inconsistent. He has showed great promise though in a handful of a games and particularly recently has been one of our most effective performers, he got MOTM against a team supposedly the 3rd best in the League which suggests he has it in him to perform against the best teams in the league.

In all honesty I feel sorry for about 90% of the team given the manager they have had to play under, most of them have suffered at the hands of Turner at some point.

Strange that Tubby said HE would not play people out of position and apart from Flinders he has done just that

Keep ...

Flinders, Austin, Liddle, McSweeney, Gamble, Brown, Monky, Jones, Rowell, Bjornnson and O Donovan (if we could get him)

I would probably offer hartley a short term deal and see how he plays at centre half with a decent manager in charge.

Ditch the rest.

ps, that makes a useful looking 11..

Flinders
McSweeney Liddle Hartley Austin
Brown Rowell Jones Monky
Bjornnson O' Donovan

that team as a 1st XI would clearly get relegated

I dont agree. I think that team is stronger than the side we have put up with all season. Thats probably the best first 11 we could muster right now so its fairly damning if that team would be relegation certainties. Obviously with tubby in charge they would be in a relegation battle but then so would Chelsea if tubby was the boss.

no defensive rock, our best right back on the left where he is nowhere near as effective, no defensive minded player in our entire midfield, Browny in midfield when he is MUCH better up front and then Bjornsson up front?????

Almost as baffling (if not more) than most of Turners team selections this season.

Grave OUT!

most folks on here have touched on the point of what such a rank bad manager can do to confidence, morale, organisation, tactics, motivation, team spirit etc - Turner single handedly destroys ALL of these

Let nobody forget he is a self obsessed non blame accepting shyster, who should be relieved of his duties as soon as the final whistle blows at Brentford
Sorry but I hold HIM accountable for the destruction of the enjoyment factor of watching Pools and not the players
A good manager would sort out all of the above problems and get this squad much further up the league

TURNER OUT

im goign to get abused here. ID KEEP POWER. the lads has performed in recent weeks for the reserves and looks to be trying hard, ok his contract is up but under a decent manager he could become a player. But i suppose you could say that to half the lads who got the chop in previous years..

Problem with power is as soon as he signs a new deal, he would go back to being an undeserving immature child. He obviously doesn't have the right mindset, so I would scatter him and use the wage on someone more deserving.

Or maybe he's a young lad who's matured a bit and might now have the application to make best use of the talents he supposedly has?

I wouldn't be upset if he stayed, but only if he was gonna get a chance in the team otherwise it'd be better for him to go elsewhere and try and make a go of it.

By the way, after watching Monkhouse on Saturday and hearing what he's been like in a lot of away games would I be the only one who'd scatter him too? Talented but not all there and a liability when he can't be arsed.

That's a possibility. Only way to find out is to give him a contract.

I agree............him and Clark had a fierce battle at Wycombe for the dubious honour of being the worst performer.
There are too many days when Monky can't be bothered. No need for it but a new manager with half a clue ought to sort that, although Rotherham fans say he was exactly the same when he was there so maybe a new manager would have a job sorting it.

Hartley gets a lot of stick but how much of his problems at full back are down to the "help" that he doesn't get from Monkhouse?

Trouble is when Monkhouse has one of his can't be arsed days he never gets subbed. However if he did play to his potential week in week out he wouldn't be playing in this division. He's one of our top goal scorers and can change a game BUT a good manager would sit him down and tell him some home truths. You can blame Hartley/Humps/Robson for being poor playing out of position at left back but its hard to defend a two on one with no support from the left sided midfielder. All the players vote for him as the biggest moaner in the club in their video question sessions on Pools World so maybe its just his personality.

I posted my thoughts on this a few weeks back now...

I'm not up to speed with how long each individual has left on their contract ....

However this is my opinion.......and it has not changed since the last time.

1 Scott Flinders.......Good keeper we will never get better at this club again.......he does need some competition to keep him fresh. KEEP

2 Neil Austin ........On this seasons form he is the best player at the club at present Mr consistent. KEEP

3 Ritchie Humphreys.....Can not play consistently at this level any more fantastic servant MR HARTLEPOOL UNITED give him the youth team to manage. RELEASE

4 Gary Liddle ............Great pro at this level you would have to spend a lot of money to get the same quality....Just a shame he can not add up! KEEP

5 Sam Collins.......Not very fond of Sam however he has grew on me this season but not quick enough in this division. RELEASE

6 Ben Clark......A honest pro but not good enough for this division. RELEASE

7 Leon Mcsweeney..........Needs to have run in the team in a settled position I think the only position he has not yet played in is in Goal....There is still time though! KEEP

8 Ritchie Jones.........Arrogant little bastard who has the Man U swagger....BUT he can back it up...... he could be the best player at the club but he is MANAGED ALL FU*KING WRONG. KEEP

9 Denis Behan.....Will never be good enough ever.. no pace nothing to offer apart from a power blaster free kick.RELEASE

10 Adam Boyd.....Still got that finishing quality in my opinion better that what we have got another MANAGED ALL FU*KING WRONG. KEEP

11 Andy Monkhouse....When he can be arsed another who could easily play at a higher level. KEEP

13 James Brown...Will he ever be the same coming back from injuries that usually retire most..However a 60% fit James Brown is a good as anything we have at the club. KEEP

14 Jonny Rowell...He is "Not Ready" Tubby Turner will be saying that when he is 35 years old another MANAGED ALL FU*KING WRONG. KEEP

15 Anthony Sweeney....Effort 100% ...No end product time to move him on we have seen his best.... he needs a fresh start.RELEASE

16 Steven Haslam...Does exactly what it says on the tin a second division footballer.RELEASE

18 Michael McKay....A great Northern league player! RELEASE

19 Jon-Andre Fredriksen....Best player on the pitch first game against MK Dons never seen him since is he alive?????. KEEP

20 Alan Power........DID have something to offer another who thinks Tubby is a tool. Again MANAGED ALL FU*KING WRONG. RELEASE

21 Mark Cook...Another not good enough will never play league football. RELEASE

22 Matty Tymon...... See Jonny Rowell. RELEASE

23 Colin Larkin......Ali Gibb / Russell Doig in disguise should be playing for Berwick.RELEASE

24 Billy Greulich......Raw keen fit one for the future but he will fall into the "MANAGED ALL FU*KING WRONG" as long as the ring master is here. KEEP

Don't know who's in or out of contract but mine would be:

Keepers

Scott Flinders
Neil Austin
Ritchie Humphreys
Gary Liddle
Sam Collins
Leon Mcsweeney
Denis Behan
Adam Boyd (Slimmed down, dried out and mothered)
Andy Monkhouse (But used more sparingly - he must play away as well as at home)
James Brown
Jonny Rowell
Steven Haslam
Jon-Andre Fredriksen
Colin Larkin
Billy Greulich
Armann Bjornsson (Lack of physical presence infuriating but worth another look)
Peter Hartley (At centre back please)
Joe Gamble
Roy O'donovan (If he'll sign for sensible money)

Releasers

Alan Power
Michael McKay
Ben Clark
Ritchie Jones
Anthony Sweeney (Desperately needs a fresh start)

Out of the releasers please add,
Boyd
Larkin
Bjorrson
Fredrikkson
Collins
Humphreys
Behan
Haslam
Cook.

Didn't realise Richie Jones should be on my keep list.
The rest can go.

I dont see the point in releasing haslam. He can do an adequate job in 2 or 3 positions and wont be on a massive wage. Perfect player to have as backup

Also agree with you. He's neat and tidy, Nothing flash but does a job. I've seen a lot worst than him, harshly treat by our fans I think.

Is there a list of who is and isn't out of contract?

It is fine saying that we should get rid of Boyd and Larkin etc but Larkin has a deal until hell freezes over and I would guess Boyd didn't come on a 1 year deal.

I know Jones is out of contract and will probably go, I wouldn't blame him the way CT has treat him and lots wouldn't miss him because he is obviously a much better player than he shows on a weekly basis.

Humphreys is also out of contract, most would like to see him go but will sentimentality mean he gets another year and a testamonial year at the club?

It is a bit bizarre. We are in a relegation battle yet the players to release are the ones who barely played and the ones we keep are the ones who got us in this mess. Unless of course a decent manager would get the best out of the retained players
